Great to meet you!

My name is Leslie Gerrard and I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I have been practicing in the Harrisonsburg area for over 10 years, and have had the pleasure to meet and provide counseling services for many clients from a wide range of backgrounds. Areas of focus for my clients have included trauma, grief, adjustment, relationships, identity issues, anxiety, and depression.

My approach to therapy

I work with clients from a collaborative, strengths-based approach, meaning that we work together to identify goals that fit with what what already works well for you. My approach is interpersonal process-oriented, which means that I focus on patterns of interactions developed over the lifespan and may influence a person’s current wellbeing. My formal training and my experience in wilderness settings have led to a holistic approach with a focus on culture and community.

What you can expect from me

When I meet with clients for the first time, we spend time getting to know one another and building feelings of comfort and trust. I provide information about myself and hope to learn about you and what brought you to therapy. We identify initial goals for our time together and discuss ways to begin moving toward those goals. Clients have typically reported that they leave the first session feeling hopeful about finding relief for their distress and resolutions for their concerns.
