Do you feel overwhelmed and emotionally exhausted by life’s challenges? Are those challenges affecting your day-to-day life? Do you think you “should” be happy but can’t figure out why you’re not? These are all normal thoughts and feelings and navigating them shouldn’t be so hard! Processing the struggles and transitions we face with a professional can help. It might mean learning to set boundaries, working through a life transition or changing a pattern that is keeping you stuck.
Life’s challenges can affect even the strongest among us. As a therapist, I specialize in helping children, adolescents, and adults navigate through difficulties such as anxiety, depression, grief/loss, divorce, low self-esteem, trauma, and relationship/adjustment issues. Through collaborative efforts, I customize therapy sessions to effectively meet each client’s unique needs and goals.
I'm a clinical psychologist residing in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, where I came to start my education in 1998 at Virginia Tech, and where I stayed to complete my graduate training at nearby Radford University. Since then, I've worked in community mental health, college counseling, and private practice, with a brief stint in neuropsychology along the way. I've also been an assistant professor at Radford and at Roanoke College. I think of myself as a generalist (meaning I like to work with a broad range of clients and issues), but have had the most experience with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, substance use disorders, and LGBTQ+ issues. When not practicing, I devote my time to family, dogs, video games, tabletop RPGs, cooking, and badly writing electronic music.
I want to provide an environment where you feel like you can be your best self. This happens by providing a safe space for you to feel cozy, welcomed and heard. When you are in the right space and with the right person, it gives you the ability to be open to discuss any issues or concerns to improve and become the best version of you.
I believe therapy works best when clients feel genuinely seen and supported. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance-related concerns, using a collaborative and evidence-based approach tailored to each individual. My goal is to help clients reconnect with themselves, build healthier patterns, and create meaningful change at their own pace.
Hi, I’m Bethany Hagy, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with about six years of experience working with children, teens, and adults. I earned my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in May 2021.
I work with clients ages 6 through adulthood, supporting a wide range of concerns including trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, anger, impulse control, relationship challenges, and life or career transitions. Whether you’re navigating something specific or just feeling stuck, I aim to meet you where you are.
At the core of my work is the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported. I strive to be a voice for those who feel like they don’t have one and a steady presence for those who need someone in their corner.
I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions to make therapy as accessible and comfortable as possible.
I provide evidence-based mental health care, including medication management, lifestyle modifications, and other therapeutic approaches.
My passion for mental health care was sparked when I volunteered at a crisis hotline. I later earned a master's degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Since then, I have gained valuable experience in community and hospital settings.
I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Emory University. I bring over 8 years of clinical experience, including 4 years in medical nursing and 4 years in mental health care across inpatient, emergency, and outpatient settings.I also served as a nurse in the U.S. military, where I cared for active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. This experience shaped a steady, grounded approach to care, especially in moments of stress, transition, or uncertainty.
I am a licensed clinical professional with a background in healthcare leadership and patient-centered care. My background is in substance use and mental health. My practice focuses on providing compassionate, evidence-based care in areas such as stress management, coping strategies, and navigating life transitions. I am committed to creating a supportive environment where clients feel heard, empowered, and equipped to achieve their personal wellness goals.

Searching for therapists in Roanoke starts with finding someone whose experience matches what you want support for. Roanoke therapists may focus on concerns like anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, trauma, or major life changes. As you compare options, look for a therapist whose listed specialties, therapy style, and background align with your needs. Provider bios can help you see whether a therapist uses approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, or trauma-informed care.
In a smaller city like Roanoke, local appointment options may vary by specialty, schedule, and office location. Virtual therapy can expand your search while still connecting you with a therapist licensed in Virginia. When narrowing your options, consider whether you prefer in-person care, virtual sessions, evening availability, or a free phone consultation before booking. Reading therapist profiles can also show how each person describes their communication style, session structure, and experience with concerns similar to yours.
Therapy in Roanoke can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand your expected out-of-pocket expense before care begins. Headway helps you find therapists who accept a wide range of insurance plans, are accepting new patients, and list their availability. You can compare profiles, check estimated costs, and book directly when you’re ready.
