Great to meet you!

I have worked with youth and families since 1992 and have a variety of work experiences from being a recreational therapist, couples therapist, family therapist and most often a therapist for youth. I have experience working with family problems as well as individual problems and although I do give a diagnosis, that is only to help drive the treatment. I see each client as a unique individual with their own set of problems. I believe people can change and I believe that if the client is dedicated, they can have a better life.

I am trained in CBT and DBT and bring my creative talents into sessions to help clients take a deep dive into their own thinking and behaviors and we seek change together.

My approach to therapy

I do use rapport building in the beginning to help ease the anxiety of starting therapy, I use humor when approriated, and I like to teach skills, give homework and review progress at next session. I like to do progressive activities and exposures to help clients learn and practice new ways of thinking and be successful using new coping skills.

What you can expect from me

During the first visit we will go over all the logistics of therapy itself, provide my history, license and philosophy of therapy. I will get a detailed history of the client's presenting problem, relationships, and strengths. We will set realistic and time based goals using shaping (one thing at a time) to improve the broader issues.
