Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding psychiatrists in Canandaigua starts with understanding the type of care they provide. Psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication, while therapists focus on talk therapy. If you are looking for support with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, or medication management, psychiatric care may be one option to consider. Some people start with a therapist, some start with a prescriber, and some work with both, depending on their needs.
In a smaller city like Canandaigua, local psychiatry options may be more limited than in larger New York markets. Virtual appointments can expand your search while keeping care accessible from home. As you compare psychiatrists, look at appointment availability, whether they offer virtual or in-person visits, and whether their profile lists experience with your concerns. Medication management appointments are often shorter and less frequent than therapy sessions. Some psychiatrists also offer therapy, so reading bios can help you understand what each appointment may include before you book.
Psychiatric care in Canandaigua can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network coverage is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay. Headway helps you search for psychiatrists who accept your plan, are accepting new patients, and offer upfront cost estimates before you book. You can review profiles, compare availability, and book directly when you’re ready.
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
