It takes courage to seek help. Thank you for taking that step.

My name is Nikola Taylor, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina. I specialize in grief and loss counseling, which can take many forms—the loss of a loved one, a breakup, a move, job loss, estrangement, loss of independence, or even the grief of an unrealized dream. Whether your loss is recent or something you’ve carried for years, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

My approach is collaborative, curious, and free of judgment. I see my clients as experts in their own lives and work to identify strengths while finding creative ways to bring comfort and clarity. I believe in the healing power of deep listening, strong peer support, and radical self-acceptance. My therapeutic style incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and psychodynamic principles to help clients make meaning of their experiences. I also have specialized training in Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD).

I am honored to work with a diverse range of clients and deeply respect different cultures, gender identities, and spiritual perspectives. Clients often tell me they appreciate my ability to sit with them in deep pain, holding space for feelings of guilt, regret, despair, and longing. Together, we work toward self-compassion and healing.

With both professional hospice experience and personal experience with grief, I understand the complexity of loss. I would be honored to support you on your unique journey. Please reach out for a free phone consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

Find the right therapist for you

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Therapist in North Carolina

Finding the right therapist in North Carolina starts with getting clear on what kind of care you need. Licensed therapists — including LPCs, LCSWs, LMFTs, and psychologists — provide talk therapy for concerns like anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and trauma. If you're looking for medication management, a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner may be the right fit. Many providers in North Carolina offer both virtual and in-person sessions, so you can choose the format that works best for your schedule and location.

With providers practicing across Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, the Triad, Wilmington, and Asheville, narrowing your options can take time. Consider what matters most to you — a provider's specialty, their approach to therapy, or whether they're close to where you live or work. Reading a provider's bio before booking can help you understand their style and decide if they're a good match.

Therapy in North Carolina can be costly without insurance, but using in-network benefits is one of the most reliable ways to reduce what you pay. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs before you book. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, and your out-of-pocket expense may be as low as $0 per session depending on your specific coverage.
