I'm Johns Hopkins-trained Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, who is deeply empathetic and up on the latest science. I specialize in anxiety, ADHD, sleep difficulties, major life transitions, the mental health aspects of chronic pain, and mild depression.
Looking for care that goes beyond a prescription? I'm Chelsea, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and owner of Thrive Psychiatry Colorado. In our work together, I will take time to listen and create a personalized plan that blends modern psychiatry with holistic care, always with curiosity, compassion, and a whole-person lens. I combine psychiatry with integrative wellness to support both mind and body. My journey began in yoga and doula work, and over the past 20 years I’ve also worked in nutrition, eating disorder treatment, community mental health, private practice and pediatric emergency medicine.
I am a lover of many things, but there is nothing dearer and nearer to my heart than the clients I help. I have been a nurse for 18 years now. Almost 100% of those years, I have spent working in or around mental health. Not to mention, I grew up in a family where mental illness directly impacted my family members. This is how and why I am passionate and dedicated to giving the utmost respect and care to any and all clients who choose me as their mental health provider. I want my clients to think of me as their teammate when it comes to battling mental health.
I’m Makala Smith, a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). I am committed to providing holistic mental health care through a balanced and patient-centered approach.
My background includes neurology, trauma, and public health nursing. I earned my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree from University of Colorado after I realized the need for psychiatric providers in my rural community of Meeker, Colorado and surrounding areas. By furthering my education, I am able to provide specialized, thoughtful, empathetic psychiatric care.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I completed my medical training at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. As an osteopathic physician, I practice with a holistic lens—integrating mind, body, and spirit—and value personalized, relational, and evidence-based care. I completed my psychiatric residency at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, DC, a forensic psychiatric hospital often referred to as “the ICU of psychiatry” for its work with individuals facing chronic, treatment-resistant conditions. After residency, I spent three years in outpatient psychiatry within large corporate settings and ultimately transitioned to an eating-disorder hospital, seeking work aligned with depth, integrity, and true patient-centered care.
As a first-generation Ukrainian Jew and a native Russian speaker, I hold lived experience with immigration, intergenerational trauma, and cultural stigma surrounding mental health. This background informs my compassion, humility, and commitment to meeting patients where they are.
Hello! I’m Dr. Mary Daniels, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate and personalized mental health care. With a strong educational background in nursing, I specialize in helping individuals manage mental health conditions and achieve overall wellness. I’m excited to work with you and support your unique needs and goals.

Finding the right psychiatrist in Boulder starts with understanding what kind of care you need. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication, and monitor your response over time. If you're looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or medication management, a psychiatrist may be the right fit. Psychiatric nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) can also prescribe and manage medication and are another option available through Headway.
Boulder has a range of mental health providers, but confirming who is accepting new patients and who takes your specific insurance plan can be time-consuming. Consider what matters most to you — whether that's a provider who specializes in a specific condition, offers virtual appointments, or practices near your neighborhood. Reading a provider's bio can help you understand their approach and decide if they're a good match before you book.
