Hi, I'm Dr. William Yu, a board-certified psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience providing medication management and psychotherapy for adults and adolescents. My areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related conditions, and life transitions.
I began my psychiatric nursing career after graduating from Columbia University School of Nursing in 2009. Several years later, I pursued an advanced practice degree, also at Columbia University, and earned a PhD. I lived in Poland and France before I arrived to the United States at the turn of this century. Given my international experience, I work in three languages: English, French, and Polish. I offer therapy and medication management and the clients and me decide on the best approach.
I have been in practice since 2013 and worked with people from all walks of life. I am sensitive to context, goal oriented and will work with you to find a solution that works for you.
Hi, I'm Ruthellen, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 28 years of experience supporting people through some of life's most challenging moments. Mental health has always been personal to me — watching my own family navigate those struggles is what called me into this work, and giving back to my community is what keeps me going. Outside of the office, you'll find me cheering on my favorite teams or staying active, because I truly believe movement and joy are part of the whole picture.
As a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and a proud graduate of D'Youville College, I provide a compassionate, faith-based approach to mental health care. My work stems from my belief that healing is always possible and that hope is a powerful force for change. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, I offer a safe, welcoming space where we can work together to rediscover your strength and resilience. I believe that setbacks help us grow rather than define who we are. Starting over, sometimes, is the bravest thing we can do.

I am a board-certified Psychiatrist (medical doctor) providing virtual care throughout NY and PA. I taper medications. This means most of my patients want to safely reduce or ultimately stop taking psychiatric medications, and I guide them through that process safely and at their own pace. I include therapy in my 30-min follow up sessions, though do not offer weekly 1-hour therapy sessions. Many of my patients also work with a therapist.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right psychiatrist in Medford starts with knowing what kind of mental health care fits your needs. Psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can diagnose conditions and prescribe medication, while therapists provide talk therapy. Medication management may be part of care for concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or OCD. Some people start with a therapist, some start with a prescriber, and some work with both. As you compare Medford psychiatrists, look for training, listed specialties, and experience that match what you want support for.
Medford is a smaller community, so nearby in-person psychiatry options may be limited. Virtual appointments can expand your search across New York and give you more choices for schedule, specialty, and fit. Psychiatry visits for medication management are often shorter and less frequent than therapy sessions, though some psychiatrists also offer therapy. Before booking, review each psychiatrist’s bio for appointment availability, communication style, session structure, and whether a free phone consultation is offered.
Psychiatric care in Medford can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before your first appointment. Headway helps you find psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners who may accept your insurance, are accepting new patients, and offer upfront cost estimates after your benefits are verified. You can browse profiles, compare availability, and book directly when you’re ready.
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
