Hi, I’m Dr. Traore, PMHNP, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner passionate about helping clients find calm, clarity, and confidence in their daily lives. My background spans medication management, psychotherapy, and holistic care for individuals facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and mood disorders. I hold a doctoral degree in nursing practice and bring years of experience supporting clients across diverse backgrounds. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you feel heard and genuinely understood.
I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care. I specialize in medication management and supportive therapy for a broad range of psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, trauma-related conditions, substance use disorders, and others. My approach is holistic and person-centered, fostering a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel supported and empowered to achieve emotional stability, improved functioning, and overall well-being.
I am a compassionate psychiatric provider that is dedicated to my practice. I started my psychiatric career as a technician in forensic psychiatry. I worked with individuals who had comitted crimes and were either attempting to determine competency, or were found not guilty by reason of insanity. As my education blossomed, I began working as a nurse on a child and adolescent crisis stabilization unit. I found a massive love for child and adolescent psychiatry and spent most of my career working crisis stabilization and residential psychiatric care for children and adolescents. This gave me significant experience working with many different cultures. After I graduated with my doctorate, I began working psychiatric outpatient. I now see patients of all ages (children 4+, adolescents, adults and geriatric). I thrive on a strong therapeutic relationship and making sure my patients feel heard. I am open minded and non-bias. You are safe with me.
My path to becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner wasn't just a career choice; it was a personal mission. After watching a loved one navigate the complexities of mental health, I realized how much the right support—or the lack of it—can change the trajectory of a life. Because of this, I’m not just focused on symptoms; I’m focused on you.
I specialize in anxiety, depression, and neurocognitive disorders, providing telehealth care throughout Illinois. I take great pride in my ability to break down complex clinical terms into understandable language, ensuring you never feel left in the dark about your own brain. When I'm not in the "office," I’m usually staying active, cooking, or listening to an educational podcast to stay sharp on the latest in wellness.
I've spent 14 years helping people navigate their mental health. I believe you deserve a provider who truly knows you — not just your chart. I offer both in-person and telehealth appointments, so you can choose what works best for your schedule and your life. My work centers on psychiatric evaluation and medication management, and I take the time to fully understand what's going on before any treatment decisions are made. I'm direct, accessible, and committed to being a steady, consistent presence in your care.
My nursing career began in 2010 when I first became a Registered Nurse. In 2017 I graduated from Maryville University in St. Louis, MO with my master’s degree in nursing and became a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) licensed in Illinois. I have been blessed to work in many facets of healthcare since and has also become a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). With a strong foundation in both primary care and mental health, my approach aligns overall wellness and hormone optimization with physical, mental, and lifestyle well-being.
I seek to provide culturally affirming, holistic care that integrates the mind, body, and spirit. As a multicultural, neurodivergent psychiatrist and daughter of immigrants raised in Chicago, I bring both clinical training and lived experience to our work together. My own journey through burnout and the process of learning to slow down and listen to what my body needed has also shaped the care I provide. It has grounded me in genuine curiosity, humility, and a deep respect for the wisdom you already carry.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right psychiatrist in Evanston starts with understanding the type of care you need. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication, and monitor how that medication is working over time. If you're looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or another condition that may benefit from medication management, a psychiatrist may be the right fit. Psychiatric nurse practitioners can also prescribe and manage medication and are another option available through Headway.
Evanston is home to a range of mental health providers, and nearby areas like Skokie, Wilmette, and Chicago's North Side expand your options further. When narrowing your search, consider what matters most — whether that's a provider who specializes in a specific condition, someone who offers virtual appointments, or a psychiatrist located close to downtown Evanston or the Northwestern University area. Reading a provider's bio can help you understand their background and approach before you book.
Psychiatry in Evanston can be expensive without insurance. Using your in-network benefits is one of the most reliable ways to lower your out-of-pocket costs. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs upfront, and many patients pay as low as $0 per visit. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, making it easier to find a psychiatrist who is both the right clinical fit and covered by your plan.
