Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding psychiatrists in Long Beach starts with understanding what kind of mental health care you want. Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication, while therapists focus on talk therapy. Medication management often includes an evaluation, ongoing check-ins, and adjustments guided by your prescriber. If you’re looking for support with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or OCD, review each psychiatrist’s specialties, training, and bio to see whether their background matches your needs.
Long Beach is a smaller market, so local in-person psychiatry options may be limited across nearby areas like Lido Beach, Oceanside, and Island Park. Virtual appointments can expand your options while keeping care accessible from home. Psychiatry visits for medication management are often shorter and less frequent than therapy sessions, and some psychiatrists also offer therapy. Some people work with both a therapist and a prescriber, depending on the kind of support they’re looking for. As you compare options, look at appointment availability, whether the psychiatrist is accepting new patients, and how they describe their communication style in their profile.
Psychiatric care in Long Beach can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before you book. Headway helps you find psychiatrists who match your preferences, accept your plan, and are accepting new patients. You can enter your insurance details, see estimated out-of-pocket costs upfront, review psychiatrist bios, and book directly when you’re ready.
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
