Hello, my name is Dr. Paula Robinson, DNP, PMHNP-BC, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered mental health care. I hold a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and have several years of clinical experience working with individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions.
Over the past four years, I have provided care to patients dealing with disorders such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and other complex mental health challenges. My approach to care focuses on creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where patients feel heard and empowered to participate in their treatment.
I believe in treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. My treatment approach combines evidence-based medication management, supportive therapy, and collaborative care to help individuals achieve improved mental wellness and quality of life.
My goal is to partner with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan that supports long-term stability, resilience, and emotional well-being.
Sometimes just getting through the day can feel like a full-time job. Finding a mental health provider who truly understands you may seem out of reach, but it’s absolutely possible. Before anything else, I’m human. I’m also a woman, born overseas and shaped by the diversity of a Southern metropolitan city. I’ve had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life and am passionate about partnering with patients as they move toward greater health, balance, and fulfillment. You don't have to navigate it all alone. You can exhale- we’ll take it from here, together.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding psychiatrists in Harrisonburg starts with understanding the type of mental health care you need. Psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. Therapists focus on talk therapy and support through counseling. If you are looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, or medication management, a psychiatrist or psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner may be a fit. Review each profile for listed specialties, clinical background, and what to expect from appointments.
In a smaller city like Harrisonburg, local psychiatry options may be more limited than in larger Virginia markets. Virtual appointments can expand your choices while still letting you search for in-person care near neighborhoods like University Hill, Weaver Avenue, and nearby areas. Medication management visits are often shorter and less frequent than therapy sessions, though some psychiatrists also offer therapy. Some people work with both a therapist and a prescriber. As you compare options, look at appointment availability, whether the psychiatrist is accepting new patients, and how their bio describes their approach.
Psychiatric care in Harrisonburg can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before care begins. Headway helps you find psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners who are accepting new patients and match your insurance plan. You can review profiles, see estimated out-of-pocket costs after entering your insurance details, and book directly when you are ready.
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
