I work with people who are stuck at certain crossroads in their life. Typically, the external problems seem to solve themselves once therapy reaches a certain point. This applies to work, relationships, life goals, and creative pursuits. My job is to help you transform mental or physical pain into something that is bearable and makes life worth living.
I work with a wide range of clients.

Hi! I am Dr. Thomas Rigg and I am a licensed psychologist based in New York City. I have been passionate about helping people since childhood. I strive to provide a warm and encouraging environment for clients from varying cultural, social, and gender identities to continue their healing journey and live a fuller life. I am dedicated to providing an environment where clients of all identities can be authentically themselves and acknowledge the importance of genuine self-expression for clients, both in the therapy space and throughout their lives.
I earned my bachelor’s degrees and doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from The University of Iowa. I gained experience working in college counseling centers and community mental health centers during my program. I also worked in a women’s shelter for several years providing support and resources to victims of domestic violence. During my doctoral program I conducted research on identity development and my thesis explored the impact that a client’s comfort expressing their culture to others had on their outcomes in therapy. I completed internship at George Mason University’s counseling center and finished my postdoctoral work at a private practice in New York City working with a wide range of adult clients.
I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner offering high touch personalized comprehensive care. I have extensive experience in women’s health, working as a birth doula, family public health nurse, lactation consultant and as an ANCC board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. My holistic approach to care is both person-centered and existential. I provide medication and psychotherapy to guide you on your journey of self-exploration, therapeutic discovery and healing.
I truly enjoy my work as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Thank Yourself Therapy. Before becoming a therapist, I attended Stuyvesant HS, earned a BFA from RISD, and spent over a decade working in advertising. I later received my MSW from Columbia University and have now been practicing for more than ten years. As a first‐generation, bilingual immigrant who changed careers, I bring both cultural insight and diverse professional experience to my practice.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right therapist in New York City starts with identifying what kind of support you're looking for. Whether you're seeking help with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, or a life transition, look for a licensed provider — such as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or psychologist — who has experience with your specific concerns. Reading a provider's bio can help you understand their approach, style, and areas of focus before you reach out.
With thousands of therapists practicing across NYC's five boroughs, narrowing your options can feel like a project in itself. Consider what matters most to you: a provider who specializes in a certain area, someone who offers virtual or in-person sessions, or a therapist located near your neighborhood or commute. Free phone consultations — available through many providers on Headway — can help you gauge fit before committing to a first session.
Therapy in New York City can be expensive, but using your in-network insurance benefits is one of the most reliable ways to reduce what you pay out of pocket. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs before you book, and many patients pay as low as $0 per visit. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, making it easier to find a therapist who fits both your clinical needs and your budget.
