I graduated from SUNY Stony Brook with my psychiatric nurse practitioner degree in 1991 and was soon board certified. I have worked in many settings from acute hospital care to outpatient private practice. I have an eclectic style having training in many modalities including Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy which can be very helpful for people feeling "stuck". I really look forward to working together.

Hey - I'm Mike and as you can see from my photo I like to keep things on the more casual side with my clients. I weave fun, jokes, and genuine questions about your personal life into our care plan. If you're looking for a Psychiatric provider who is all business - I'm probably not the right fit. But if you're looking to work with someone who is down to earth, and willing to go the extra mile to be your true partner and confidant on this journey, I'd love to meet you. As a lifelong New Yorker, I understand the unique pressures, pace, and complexity of life here — and I use that insight to offer care that actually fits your world.
I offer a compassionate, honest, supportive and tailored approach to individuals and families seeking therapy. I connect with a diverse population of individuals, from all walks of life and varying ages who suffer from depression, anxiety, trauma and family conflict.

I also bring valuable experience working with children and adolescents facing emotional, behavioral, developmental, and academic challenges. I am skilled in evaluating and treating conditions such as ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression, oppositional behaviors, trauma-related disorders, autism spectrum-related concerns, and mood dysregulation. I work closely with parents, guardians, schools, therapists, and pediatric providers to create comprehensive treatment plans that support emotional growth, school success, and family functioning.
In addition, I have extensive experience working with geriatric populations and individuals living with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurocognitive disorders. I am skilled in assessing cognitive decline and managing behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia such as agitation, aggression, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, and psychosis, while promoting dignity, safety, and quality of life. I collaborate closely with families, caregivers, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to develop supportive care plans and provide education regarding disease progression, behavioral strategies, and medication options.
I am an LCSW with over 10 years of experience in the field. I've worked in hospital settings, inpatient and outpatient mental health, and telehealth therapy. Headway makes it easier to find support for overcoming addiction — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Searching for addiction therapists in New York starts with finding a therapist whose experience matches the type of support you want. Addiction care can include support for alcohol use, drug use, substance use concerns, gambling, compulsive behaviors, or co-occurring concerns like anxiety, depression, and trauma. Look for therapists who list addiction, substance use, or recovery support in their specialties, and review whether they mention approaches like motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy for substance use, harm reduction, or coordination with medication management when a prescriber is part of your care team.
New York has a wide range of therapists across urban, suburban, and rural areas, so available options may look different in New York City, Buffalo, Albany, and smaller communities across the state. Some people prefer in-person sessions with a therapist near home or work, while others use virtual appointments to widen their search. As you compare therapists, consider appointment availability, whether they are accepting new clients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading bios can help you understand how a therapist talks about addiction care, including whether their approach is direct, collaborative, harm reduction-informed, or structured around recovery goals.
The cost of addiction therapy in New York varies, and using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs. Headway helps you search for therapists who match your needs, may accept your insurance, and are ready to see new clients. You can enter your insurance details to see estimated out-of-pocket costs before booking, with access to therapists across over 100 plans nationally. From there, you can browse profiles, compare availability, and book directly when you’re ready.
