I’m Zara Hanson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for helping people reconnect with themselves, heal from the inside out, and show up more fully in their relationships.
My interest in mental health started early, rooted in a curiosity about human behavior and a desire to help others feel less alone in their struggles. I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Research Psychology, followed by a Master’s in Clinical Social Work with a focus on both direct therapy and systems-level care. Over the years, I’ve worked across a range of settings—from community mental health to private practice—supporting individuals, couples, and families navigating complex emotional terrain.
My practice focuses on trauma, neurodivergence (including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder), substance use, mood disorders, relationship conflict, and emotional dysregulation. I’m especially drawn to working with clients who want to make sense of their story, process unresolved experiences, and find a more grounded, authentic way of being. I also work with couples to deepen connection, repair trust, and build more effective communication.
Therapy with me is relational, honest, and insight-driven. I aim to meet you exactly where you are, while gently encouraging growth, curiosity, and self-compassion along the way.
Hi, I’m glad you’re here. I have been working as a therapist for nearly 20 years and am licensed in Arizona, Montana, and Oregon. I mainly support adults navigating trauma, anxiety, and depression who are seeking a deeper connection with themselves to heal and grow. I am a Level I trained Internal Family Systems Therapist, a Certified EMDR Therapist, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Although my approach is grounded in Internal Family Systems, I remain flexible and prioritize what feels most authentic and genuine for you and your unique needs.
Therapy with Lived Wisdom
With over 20 years of experience walking alongside individuals on their healing journeys, I bring more than clinical knowledge—I bring lived understanding. My work is rooted in the mind-body connection, because true healing doesn’t just happen in the mind. It happens in the nervous system, in the body, and in the deeper layers of the self.
Choosing a therapist is a sacred step. If you’re wondering how to choose, I invite you to ask: “Do they do their own work? Have they sat in the depths they’ll be guiding me through?”
I have. I’ve lived the unraveling. I’ve done the deep inner work. And I’ve found my way through.
Now, I offer a steady, compassionate presence to help you find yours. You don’t have to do this alone.
Let me walk with you.

Together we will identify your goals, , develop strategies, and build skills that foster long-term growth and resilience. I am a licensed psychologist offering telehealth therapy for adults in early and midlife across Montana. I work with people who feel lost, overwhelmed, unseen, or trapped. Whether you are carrying trauma, struggling with depression or anxiety, stuck in painful relationship patterns, or functioning on the outside while feeling depleted underneath, therapy can help you understand and move through what feels most painful or stuck.
My style is active, honest, and collaborative. I am warm and direct. I listen carefully, ask real questions, and provide thoughtful feedback to help you better understand what is happening and what may need to change.
My background includes doctoral training in clinical psychology, additional education and experience in trauma and crisis work, and clinical experience in medical and academic settings. I also had a previous career as a hospital chaplain. I am comfortable working with both symptoms and deeper concerns: suffering, meaning, faith, conscience, identity, loss, and major life transitions. Spiritual or religious concerns can be part of the work when they matter to you, but they do not have to be.
I offer telehealth only, so you can meet with me from anywhere in Montana. I accept insurance through Headway and offer a free 15-minute consultation to see whether working together would be a good fit. I have limited openings, so please reach out if you are interested.
