I have a passion for working with people and providing space and time for healing. Often the most hopeless situations are where the beauty will appear. That does not mean everything will be perfect, but it does mean you can learn to function well and enjoy your life.

My name is Megan Higgins, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and founder of Calm Tides Psychiatry. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Wilkes University and am licensed in South Carolina. I provide compassionate, evidence-based care for children, adolescents, and adults through telepsychiatry. My background in critical care nursing and personal experience as a parent of children with mental health challenges have shaped my empathetic, collaborative approach. I’m dedicated to creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to achieve wellness.
I have been a therapist for 13 years. My training is in Expressive Arts Therapy, Somatic Work and Systems Therapies. I have worked in a variety of settings from outdoor education to residential and IOP. Most of my background has been in supporting individuals or families with children with complex developmental needs and neurodiversity. I love working with folks of all ages and backgrounds and am an ally.
Personally, I love crafting, cooking, paddle boarding and traveling to National Parks with my husband and two small children.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me, and I look forward to knowing more about you!
After retiring from the Army, I went back to school to obtain my masters of Social Work to help others who suffer from trauma and depression. My biggest inspiration for wanting to help others is the help that I have received along the way. It was after seeing my therapist who helped to guide me through gender, dysphoria, and my transition, that I begin my path that has led me here, wanting to help others. My guiding philosophy is that you deserve to treat yourself as good if not better than anyone else. When you feel good, others will feel good too.
I am a compassionate person, who currently serves as a Travel Social Worker, where I provide essential individual and group therapy to clients in need by focusing on clinical assessments and crisis interventions. I ensure that clients experiencing self-injurious behaviors receive ongoing support. My commitment to improving mental health is further highlighted by my role as Clinical Director at Pinnacle Point Supportive Services, where I was instrumental for 14 years. In this position, I overseen a team of therapists, facilitate therapy sessions for both children and adults, and engage in court-related matters. With a strong foundation in therapy and clinical supervision, I have developed skills in treatment planning, documentation, and quality assurance.
