My name is Kathleen Wright and I am an LCSW in Hunterdon County, NJ. I have been practicing social work for over eleven years and graduated from the University of Southern California with my MSW. I truly love listening and learning from people. I believe strongly in helping those around me and am looking forward to working with you.

Taking the first steps and searching for a therapist to help you on your healing journey is a huge accomplishment! I am currently licensed in NJ and have been working in the field of mental health for about 8 years. I work with teens and adults with anxiety and/or neurodivergent disorders among other areas.
Professional licensed therapist, supporting adults with the depression, anxiety, and stress.
Growing up in a culture where mental health was often stigmatized, I saw how difficult it could be for people to openly talk about their struggles or ask for support. Those experiences shaped my passion for therapy and inspired me to help create a space where people feel comfortable, supported, and understood without fear of judgment.
In my work, I’ve had the opportunity to support individuals from diverse backgrounds who are navigating a range of life challenges. These experiences have strengthened my belief in meeting each person with empathy, patience, and respect for where they are in their journey, while helping them build on their strengths and move toward meaningful change.
As a therapist with experience in the mental health field since 2017, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals across a broad spectrum of age groups and life stages. Since establishing my private practice in 2022, I have had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and adults in diverse therapeutic settings. My expertise extends beyond individual therapy to include family and couples counseling, providing holistic support to those navigating challenges within relationships and personal growth. My approach is centered on empathy, understanding, and collaboration, tailoring each therapeutic experience to meet the unique needs of my clients.
I have worked in the field of mental health for 16 years in a variety of settings including emergency rooms, mobile crisis, residential treatment, community homes, and adolescent transitional housing, and virtual based crisis work. In addition, I have also worked with the public safety (police and corrections) community. As a 1st generation Caribbean American, I also have ties to the Caribbean community and have provided clinical services to many members of the Diaspora.
Seeking support takes courage, and I honor the strength it takes to begin this process. You may be navigating grief, major life transitions, identity exploration, or recovering from experiences of harm. Perhaps you are a young adult stepping into new responsibilities, a student balancing multiple pressures, or someone carrying the weight of anxiety or depression. You may simply want a space where you feel seen, affirmed, validated, and supported. A place to make sense of your experiences and move toward the life you envision.
That vision inspired me to create H.O.O.D. Counseling & Consulting — Heritage, Origin, and Our Dopeness. I founded H.O.O.D on the belief that healing is rooted in culture, lived experiences, and strength, reminding us that even in hardship, growth is possible. With 10+ years of experience, I offer a holistic, empowering, and culturally responsive approach. Clients describe me as compassionate, grounding, and direct, fostering an environment of trust and change.

Finding a therapist in New Jersey starts with getting clear on what you're looking for. Think about the concerns you want to address — whether that's anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, or something else — and whether you'd prefer virtual sessions or in-person visits. New Jersey is home to a wide range of licensed providers, including licensed professional counselors (LPCs), licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), psychologists, and psychiatrists, each with different training and areas of focus.
With so many providers practicing across the state, narrowing your options can take time. Reading a provider's bio is one of the most useful steps you can take. Look for details about their approach, the populations they work with, and what a session with them looks like. A free phone consultation, when available, can also help you decide if a provider feels like the right match before you commit.
Therapy in New Jersey can be expensive out of pocket, but using your in-network insurance benefits is one of the most reliable ways to bring costs down. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs before you book.
