My name is Brian Sager, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC and I work for Perry Githens, APRN LLC in Southbury and New Milford, CT. We provide outpatient medication management, Spravato, and TMS. I am passionate about helping my clients improve their lives in any way that I can.
I have been working in healthcare since 2007, working as a certified nursing assistant taking care of elderly patients in long term care facilities and home care. I later graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 2008 and continued to work in long term care facilities caring for the elderly. I graduated as a Registered Nurse from Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing and went on to taking care of patients ranging from young adults to geriatric with acute conditions, stable chronic conditions and complex medical conditions. In 2018, I graduated as a Nurse Practitioner and worked with patients post cardiac surgery, critically ill patient in the intensive care unit and a mix of neurology, neurosurgery, general surgery, vascular surgery and medically unstable psychiatric patients. After experiencing postpartum, with my extensive medical background, I decided to pursue a degree in Psychiatry to help more people goring through what I went through. I graduated with my PMHNP from Western Connecticut State University in 2025. Through my education, I was able to provide care for patients, both stable and acute, with depression, ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety, and mood disorders.
I believe every patient is unique and deserves individualized care. I have a passion for instilling hope in the patients I care for. I place a strong emphasis on actively listening and collaborating with each patient on their goals of treatment.
I am dual board certified Nurse Practitioner. I specialized in management of depression, anxiety, panic disorders, ADHD and addiction treatment.
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a passion for integrative, whole-person care. By blending the principles of integrative psychiatry with a deep understanding of adult medicine, I am committed to treating the mind and body as a unified system. I believe that true wellness requires dedicated attention to both.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding psychiatrists in Newtown starts with understanding which type of mental health care fits your needs. Psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can diagnose conditions and prescribe medication, while therapists focus on talk therapy and skill-based support. Medication management may be part of care for concerns like anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or OCD. Some people start with a prescriber, some start with a therapist, and some work with both. Look for a psychiatrist whose listed specialties, training, and approach match what you want support with.
Newtown is a smaller community, so local psychiatry appointments may be more limited than in larger Connecticut cities. Virtual appointments can expand your options while still letting you find care that fits your schedule. Psychiatric medication management visits are often shorter and less frequent than therapy sessions, and some psychiatrists also offer therapy. As you compare profiles, check appointment availability, whether the psychiatrist is accepting new patients, and whether a free phone consultation is offered. Reading bios can help you understand communication style, clinical focus, and what to expect before booking.
Psychiatric care in Newtown can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and see your estimated out-of-pocket cost before you book. Headway helps you find psychiatrists who take your insurance, are accepting new patients, and offer in-person or virtual appointments when available. You can compare profiles, review specialties, and book directly when you’re ready.
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
