As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Registered Art Therapist, my work centers queer and transgender preteens, teens, and adults, as well as individuals with current or past foster care involvement. Carolyn is driven by a vision to create a kinder humanity—one nervous system at a time. She believes therapy provides a space to explore safety in an uncertain world by fostering awareness of the connection between the heart, intuition, and the nervous system. Carolyn understands that while the nervous system doesn’t lie- judgments, perceptions, and assumptions can leave individuals feeling stuck, misunderstood, or exhausted.
I earned a double Masters in Clinical Psychology and Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. I have a B.S in Kinesiology and spent over 5 years working in Exercise Science/Fitness for the YMCA of SF. I am part of the Polyvagal Equine Institute (PVEI) community-spent the last 5yrs training in equine therapy. I have over 20yrs experience teaching dance, yoga & mindfulness.
Outside of work, Carolyn nourishes her own nervous system by walking in nature, swimming, practicing yoga, horseback riding, reading, and spending quality time with her family and her partner. She is also the co-host of a podcast with her longtime best friend, where they explore current events through a clinical and social services comedic lens.
Hello, my name is Shahnoor! In sessions, I utilize a client centered and solution focused approach rooted in empathy and authenticity. If desired, I also incorporate a decolonized lens into therapy.
My practice blends evidence based and decolonized treatments. I offer psychoeducation and collaboratively explore different modalities until we find what best fits your needs. Traditional approaches include CBT, solution focused, trauma focused, psychodynamic, DBT, and ACT. My decolonized offerings are fluid and evolving, including transpersonal therapy, The Daring Way by Brené Brown, spirituality, sound therapy, art therapy, meditation, anti-oppression, feminist, anti-colonial, and more.
I am Pakistani, a first generation child of immigrants, and understand the complexities of navigating two worlds. I know from experience that trauma can shape us, but it can also fuel resilience. My goal is to help clients reconnect with themselves and their joy, despite past pain.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, earning my B.A. in Sociology and Gender Studies from UCLA and my Master’s in Social Work from USC. If my approach resonates with you, I’d love to connect and support you on your healing journey!
The journey to becoming a therapist wasn’t a straight line for me—I arrived here after walking many different paths in my life. For me, being a therapist isn’t about being an expert who sits above you. It’s about someone you can feel warm with, open with, and safe around.

I’m someone who truly listens and strives to meet each person exactly where they are. My style is adaptive, reflective, and flexible. I bring authenticity, compassion, and a good sense of humor into my work because I believe that laughter and honesty can be just as healing as insight. I was inspired to become a therapist by my own desire for the kind of support I would have wanted, and I aim to offer that same understanding and care to my clients. People often describe me as warm, genuine, and empowering. I am someone who helps them feel deeply heard and supported while encouraging growth in meaningful ways.
