Hello! I'm Kris and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California and the founder of Village Wellness Center, a thriving group psychotherapy practice based in San Juan Capistrano. I have over 25 years of experience in the mental health field, and I specialize in maternal mental health, depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the unique needs of women and mothers.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Sacramento State University and returned to school 15 years later to earn my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology.
The beginning of my career in mental health started in residential care helping at-risk youth, and over the course of 20 years, my work and experience evolved into leading and developing clinical programs for outpatient and court-mandated facilities while also building my specialty in perinatal mood disorders and maternal mental health in my private practice. Additionally over the past two decades, I was raising my family and actively contributing to the Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano communities.
Through my own struggles with postpartum depression and anxiety, I became a passionate advocate for maternal wellness and thriving families. This became the catalyst to opening Village Wellness Center, where the ability to serve entire families and promote holistic mental wellness with a team of therapists can be achieved.
I have a Master's Degree in Counseling, Marriage, and Family from Phillips Graduate Institute.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from UCSB.
I typically work with clients who have a history of trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, and managing anxiety, The clients I work with are very motivated to make changes in their lives.
I worked with high-risk, traumatized, and abused youth for many years. I find practicing therapy very rewarding. Assisting my clients to work through life challenges and progress in their life journey is a privilege.
Some things you've been carrying for so long they've started to feel like part of who you are. I work with adolescents, adults, and older adults who are navigating trauma, grief, loss, and the weight of experiences that don't just go away on their own. People of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic situations, gender expressions, and sexual orientations find a real home in my practice, including folks within the LGBTQIA+ community. Clients often tell me they feel genuinely heard in a way they haven't before.

Headway helps you find expert-guided support for every stage of motherhood — from finding the right therapist or psychiatrist, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right postpartum therapist in Long Beach starts with identifying the type of support you need. Postpartum depression, anxiety, and other perinatal mood changes can look different for each person — and a provider who specializes in these concerns can tailor their approach accordingly. Look for a licensed therapist, counselor, or psychiatrist with experience in perinatal mental health care, and consider whether you'd prefer virtual sessions or in-person appointments near neighborhoods like Belmont Shore, Bixby Knolls, or Signal Hill.
When comparing providers, read their bios carefully. Credentials like PMH-C (perinatal mental health certification) indicate specialized training, and many postpartum providers use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or interpersonal therapy. A free phone consultation can also help you determine whether a provider's style feels like the right match before you commit to a full session.
Therapy in Long Beach can be expensive without coverage, but affordable options exist when you use in-network insurance benefits. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs before booking, and many patients pay as low as $0 per visit. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, making it easier to find a postpartum specialist who fits both your clinical needs and your budget.
