I am at my best when I am a guide for others. I start by listening and developing understanding of who you are, what you value, and where you struggle. I will help you to find your way back to yourself and develop the trust you need in yourself to live your best life. I use an approach that is very collaborative offering tools and resources, but assisting you to choose your own direction.
We all struggle at times, especially in the way we live these days. I can help you understand how and why you may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected and develop strategies to move through this to a happier, more grounded, and more confident version of yourself.
I know reaching out for therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’re dealing with things that feel confusing, heavy, or even stigmatized. I’ve spent my career working in many corners of the mental health world—from individual and couples therapy to specialized work around sexual behavior and addiction, including involvement with the legal system and court settings. Because of this, I’m used to sitting with people in really tough situations, and I bring a steady, non-judgmental presence to whatever you’re going through.
My therapeutic style is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I am highly trained, deeply dedicated to my clients, and committed to providing effective care that creates real, lasting change. I believe therapy should feel both supportive and practical, offering not only understanding but also tools that you can use in your everyday life.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. As a counselor, I have worked in public schools, adult and youth residential facilities, online counseling, wilderness programs, private practice, and mental health facilities. My areas of expertise include sexual abuse, domestic violence, substance abuse, parenting, and leadership. I have presented at many local, state, and national professional conferences and have taught many masters’ level mental health courses for the past 20+ years. Currently, I am the Assistant Program Director and Associate Professor of Counseling at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. Prior to my work in counseling and academia, I served a tour of duty in Germany as an officer in the US Army and then back in America as a bank branch manager. I graduated from Brigham Young University with degrees in Corporate Communications (BA) and Educational Psychology (M.Ed.) and at the University of the Cumberlands (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision.
Therapy is a second career for me. I worked 25 years in journalism listening to stories as a reporter; often traumatic stories. When I learned that it is possible to find growth and healing after traumatic events, I chose to become a therapist to walk with individuals on their journey to finding peace and understanding.
I've worked with several victims of domestic violence, sexual violence and child abuse; and first responders, such as law enforcement, emergency medical personnel and search and rescue. I am unafraid of the hard stories; and can respect and find solutions for clients who cannot speak aloud the horrors they've experienced or seen.
I also love working with people who are ready to find their path to authenticity, joy and fulfilment.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from Utah State University. I have experience working with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. I have worked in the child welfare system for 10 years, advocating for families and individuals by helping them improve their lives and reach their highest potential.
I specialize in working with anxiety, ADHD, and women's issues. I provide individual and relational therapy.
I received a MS in Human Development and Family Science with a specialization in Couple and Family Therapy from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS.
I dedicate my life work to helping others find ease in their life along with meaning and purpose and whatever is most important to them and their loved ones. When we lost my son-in-law to addiction and suicide, this career was jump-started!
My education and licensing background includes:
Master of Arts - Integrated Recovery for Co-Occuring Disorders - Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School
CMHC - Clinical Mental Health Counselor
LPC - Licensed Professional Counselor
LAADC/ICAADC - Internationally Certified / Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor
