Hi, I’m Jacob Templeton. I bring experience from 15 years in mental health, including 9+ years of clinical counseling. I've worked with diverse clients, including many first responders. Whether you’re navigating a tough season or pursuing growth, I’d be honored to help you create lasting change.
I am a double board-certified Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience across the continuum of psychiatric care, including acute psychiatric emergencies, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, geriatric mental health, intellectual and developmental disability services, and healthcare management. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and am currently completing my Doctorate, reflecting my ongoing commitment to clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning.
Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals and families navigating a wide range of psychiatric conditions, from situational anxiety and depression to severe and persistent mental illness. My clinical experience includes extensive work with schizophrenia and psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma-related conditions, and mood instability across the lifespan. I am particularly experienced in caring for geriatric patients, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and patients with complex medication regimens requiring careful evaluation, simplification, and long-term stabilization.
I also work closely with college-aged patients and adults who are navigating academic pressure, career transitions, family dynamics, identity development, and the cumulative stressors that can emerge during periods of high responsibility or change. Many of my patients are high-functioning individuals who appear “put together” on the outside but struggle internally with anxiety, rumination, intrusive thoughts, emotional dysregulation, or burnout. Others are managing chronic psychiatric illness while striving to maintain independence, relationships, and quality of life.
I have extensive experience working with families—including both birth and foster families—involved in DCS care, as well as individuals navigating substance use and mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and grief. Through this work, I have supported clients in managing complex family dynamics, coping with loss and transition, and building skills to support long-term stability and well-being.
Most recently, I worked in a primary care setting, where I gained a deeper understanding of the connection between physical and mental health. This experience has strengthened my awareness of how chronic health conditions can impact emotional well-being, stress levels, and overall quality of life. I integrate this perspective into my work, helping clients address both the emotional and practical aspects of living with ongoing health challenges.
I have been a double board-certified nurse practitioner for over 5 years, and I'm passionate about using my nearly 20 years of nursing experience to empower individuals struggling with mental health. Beyond my dedication to my family (married to a wonderful man and blessed with 4 lovely children), I find joy in exploring the world, having visited 5 continents! When I'm not caring for patients or navigating family life, I'm dreaming of adventures in the remaining two!
I work best with driven people experiencing a big change. Perhaps, despite your best efforts, things aren’t working out as you’d hoped. Or perhaps you’ve gotten all you wanted and it doesn’t satisfy. I work often with D1 athletes & pros (as well as their family members). I love supporting the romantic partners of people in the public eye. Though I often work with athletes I am not a Sports Psych. In fact, I don’t even follow sports! I’m here for the rest of your life and identity.

Headway helps you stay on track with expert-guided support for ADHD — from finding the right therapist or psychiatrist, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right ADHD provider in Tucson starts with understanding what type of care you need. Therapists who specialize in ADHD can help with building coping strategies, managing time, and addressing related concerns like anxiety or depression. If you're looking for medication management, a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner may be the right fit. Many people benefit from working with both a therapist and a prescriber, and Headway lists both provider types in the Tucson area.
With a large student population near the University of Arizona and a growing metro that stretches from Marana to Sahuarita, Tucson residents have a range of ADHD providers to choose from — but finding one who accepts your insurance and is taking new patients can be time-consuming. On Headway, every provider listed is accepting new patients, and you can read detailed bios to learn about their approach, specialties, and experience with ADHD before you book.
Therapy in Tucson can be expensive without in-network coverage, but using your insurance benefits is one of the most reliable ways to reduce what you pay. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs upfront, and many patients pay as low as $0 per visit. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, making it easier to find an ADHD provider who fits both your clinical needs and your budget.
