I am a New York state and New Jersey state licensed clinical psychologist. I received my doctorate in psychology from Long Island University-Post. I completed an APA accredited internship from Mt. Sinai Services-Elmhurst Hospital Center. I received postdoctoral training from New York University Counseling and Wellness Services. I specialize in working with adults with concerns regarding career, relationships, life transitions, identity, anxiety, eating disorder/body image, and grief/loss.
Hi! I am Dr. Thomas Rigg and I am a licensed psychologist based in New York City. I have been passionate about helping people since childhood. I strive to provide a warm and encouraging environment for clients from varying cultural, social, and gender identities to continue their healing journey and live a fuller life. I am dedicated to providing an environment where clients of all identities can be authentically themselves and acknowledge the importance of genuine self-expression for clients, both in the therapy space and throughout their lives.
I earned my bachelor’s degrees and doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from The University of Iowa. I gained experience working in college counseling centers and community mental health centers during my program. I also worked in a women’s shelter for several years providing support and resources to victims of domestic violence. During my doctoral program I conducted research on identity development and my thesis explored the impact that a client’s comfort expressing their culture to others had on their outcomes in therapy. I completed internship at George Mason University’s counseling center and finished my postdoctoral work at a private practice in New York City working with a wide range of adult clients.
My philosophy in mental health counseling is rooted in the belief that change is always possible. Drawing from my 20 years of experience in physical rehabilitation as an occupational therapist, I bring a holistic and body-based understanding to mental health treatment.
I started my career as a litigation attorney in Ireland where I grew up. I spent many years working in law and financial services in the US, Australia, and China. Most recently, I worked as a therapist for a community activist organization.
I was drawn to therapy from my prior career having seen firsthand the enormous value it can bring in improving both the quality and enjoyment of our lives. Therapy offers us a safe space to explore the parts of ourselves we cannot access in the midst of our daily routines. When we get right down to it, the quality of the relationships we have with others flows from the relationship we have with ourselves.
I live in Brooklyn with my husband, our two kids and a mildly anxious dog, whose interest in therapy is limited to eating her feelings. I work with clients both in person, in mid-town Manhattan, and remotely.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding a therapist in Larchmont starts with getting clear on what you're looking for. Consider the concerns you want to address — such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or a life transition — and whether you'd prefer individual, couples, or family therapy. Providers in the Larchmont and Westchester County area offer a range of approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and more.
From there, look for a licensed provider whose experience matches your needs. Credentials like LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, and psychologist each reflect different training backgrounds, but what matters most is finding someone you feel comfortable with. Reading a provider's bio can help you understand their style and focus areas before you commit.
Therapy in the greater New York metro area can be costly, but using your in-network insurance benefits is one of the most reliable ways to bring down your out-of-pocket costs. On Headway, you can enter your insurance information to see estimated session costs before you book, and many patients pay as low as $0 per visit. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, so you can find a provider who fits your needs and your budget.
