Hello. My name is Mary ‘Sarah’ Houston. I have been a Mental Health nurse for 20 years. I have been a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) since November, 2016. As a PMHNP, I have worked inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, along with working at a crisis stabilization unit for mental health crises. As well, I have training in mental health Telehealth. I have worked with clients with depression, anxiety, insomnia, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, substance use disorder, and PTSD.
I have a passion to help those with emotional and mental health needs.
With a nursing career spanning since 2008, I have dedicated over 15 years to understanding the complexities of patient care. After earning my Master’s Degree in 2021, I transitioned into advanced psychiatric practice in 2022. Having served in both fast-paced inpatient units and collaborative outpatient clinics, I offer a well-rounded perspective on mental health. My background allows me to blend clinical expertise with a deeply rooted compassion for the human experience.
I’m Sarah, a therapist who helps people slow down, listen to their bodies, and reconnect with parts of themselves that have felt overlooked or misunderstood. My approach is warm, gentle, and trauma-informed, drawing from CBT, DBT, and body-based techniques. I especially enjoy working with neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ clients, those rebuilding trust in themselves and others. I aim to create a space that feels emotionally safe, shame-free, and even sprinkled with humor - where we can both sit in discomfort and find lightness along the way.
There’s already so much in the world to feel stressed about. Relationship struggles don’t need to add to that weight. I love helping couples and individuals navigate relational distress. After working as an engineer for 10 years, I transitioned into therapy. I bring a blend of analytic and empathetic skills into the therapy room. My approach is laid-back, and I enjoy incorporating humor into sessions. I’ve been practicing for nearly 15 years, focusing on adults and couples.

Finding the right therapist in Glendale starts with getting clear on what kind of support you're looking for. Therapists specialize in different areas — some focus on anxiety or depression, others on relationships, trauma, or life transitions. Knowing your primary concern can help you narrow your search. Look for a licensed provider (such as an LPC, LCSW, psychologist, or psychiatrist) who has experience with your specific needs, and read their bio to understand their approach before booking.
With a large number of mental health providers practicing across Glendale and the surrounding West Valley, choosing one can feel overwhelming. Consider what matters most to you — whether that's a provider who offers CBT or another specific therapy style, someone available for virtual sessions, or a therapist located near your neighborhood. A free phone consultation can help you decide if a provider is the right match before you commit to a session.
