Hi there! I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker, and have been a psychotherapist for over 20years. Yet, I'm probably not much different from you. Trying to navigate life's rough moments. Wishing and holding on to dreams and aspirations - feeling disappointed or defeated when they slip away or seem consistently out of reach. Universal human traits and needs may seem cliche, but I've come to discover that it is reflected in all of us. My experience as a therapist has helped many people gain fundamental insights into themselves and realize that we're not that much different [some just wear better masks!]. It has also helped me to recognize why it can be difficult to breakout of feeling perpetually stuck. Sometimes my clients mirror myself and it can be a humbling but meaningful experience. One of my strengths is humor -very underrated! I like to sprinkle that into my work when possible as it helps to balance the heaviness of life. I don't always hide behind my therapist role - I share my experiences to help build connection, to normalize, and highlight that no matter who you are, we're likely seeking something similar from and for ourselves.
I completed my MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of New Hampshire in 2019. Since then, I have work primarily worked for institutions facilitating groups for PHP/IOP programs and providing outpatient individual and couples counseling.
A client comes in to see her therapist and is 10 minutes late. She sits down and apologizes for her tardiness, to which the therapist replies that no apologies are necessary as clients are only late for their first session.
The vignette illustrates something that I see in clients repeatedly who come into my office. Many should have come in at least a year or two ago but for some reason think that the problems they experience are still manageable.
While I admire the will of many of those who still manage life like the proverbial Dutch Boy and the dike, I believe that asking for help is a strength of its own. In therapy, I come from the perspective of someone that had to receive help at various times in my life. I've also had a meandering career path, meaning that I've worked in several fields and industries prior to becoming a therapist and have been able to do ground-level empathizing with people who work in blue and white-collar professions.
You notice your emotions are all over the place and you don’t know how to control them. Your head might be spinning with worry about the past and the future. When things get difficult and things we have to do pile up we can lose sight of the moments that help us stay balanced or steady. You are not alone. Therapy can help you get feeling like yourself again. Through teletherapy, you will receive the same high quality care you would get in an office from the comfort of your own surroundings.
I bring a steady and calm approach to therapy utilizing a strengths-based, non-judgmental, empathetic, and empowering approach to treatment using motivational interviewing, CBT & DBT. Each person is capable, resilient, and a whole human being. You might need a little help sometimes to listen to that wise voice inside of you that knows what to do. I can help.
I enjoy working with adults and teens who have difficulty with anxiety, depression, other mood disorders, relationship struggles, trauma, adapting to major life changes, and managing stress. I have supported clients through adapting to the inevitable changes life brings, grief and loss, exploring and embracing sexuality and/or gender identity, and much more.
