Counseling is actually my 2nd career, doing I.T. Support was my 1st.

While working in that field, I told people that I did just as much counseling as I did I.T. work. Many people came to see me feeling anxious, angry, stressed, overwhelmed, or in grief because of technology issues.

I quickly learned that there were two issues going on:

· One was technical and the other was emotional.

· One needed repair and the other needed relief.

So, I addressed the person and their emotions first and then addressed their I.T. issues. I spent thousands of hours sitting with people, fixing their technology and giving space for their emotions and...I loved it!

I didn’t realize it then, but these were my first steps which would lead me into pursuing a career as a therapist. Now my work is in Emotional Support and instead of addressing hardware and software, I get to address brainware and heartware.

Find the right therapist for you

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Therapist in South Carolina

Finding the right therapist in South Carolina starts with getting clear on what you're looking for. Whether you're seeking help with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, postpartum challenges, or trauma, choosing a licensed provider who specializes in your area of concern can make a meaningful difference. South Carolina therapists hold a range of credentials, including LPC, LISW-CP, LMFT, and psychologist designations. Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners are also available for medication management.

With providers practicing across Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Spartanburg, Myrtle Beach, and smaller communities throughout the state, you can find both in-person and virtual options. Virtual sessions make it easier to connect with a provider who fits your needs, even if they practice in a different part of the state. Reading a provider's bio before booking can help you understand their approach and decide if they're a good match.

Therapy in South Carolina can vary in cost, but using your in-network insurance benefits is one of the most reliable ways to keep out-of-pocket expenses low. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs before you book. Nationally, Headway partners with 100+ insurance plans, and many patients pay as little as $0 per session. Every provider listed is accepting new patients, so you can move from searching to booking in minutes.
