Austin's vibrant LGBTQIA+ community deserves affirming mental healthcare. Headway offers flexible sessions across neighborhoods like Downtown, South Congress, and East Austin, with 2,467 providers ready to support your wellness journey.
Some of my passions include working with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks. I enjoy working with individuals and couples. I have additional training on Emotion Focused Therapy allowing me to connect with attachment needs and help heal through establishing a secure attachment in relationships.
Welcome!
My work with clients values the therapeutic relationship, authenticity, and practical solutions.
I specialize in working with adults and older adolescents, dealing with issues such as anxiety, depression, family of origin issues, grief, relationship issues, or low self esteem.
I have experience in group practice, community mental health, and private practice settings, doing psychotherapy with a wide range of clients experiencing diverse clinical concerns.
I earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Professional Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin.
I welcome EVERYONE to my practice. I hope your experience working with me is affirming, safe and empowering. I have been working in the mental health field for 20 years and specialize in trauma treatment. I utilize different therapy modalities for different people but love incorporating EMDR in my work.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with four years of therapy experience as well as over 25 years of experience mentoring and supporting people living with: trauma and dissociation; disability and neurodivergence; and LGBTQIA+ identity.
I work with clients from all walks of life in navigating this chaotic world we find ourselves in. We often unintentionally rely on coping skills and beliefs about ourselves that reinforce feelings of sadness or worry rather than relieve them just to survive day to day. Through a warm, often humorous, and always open-minded person centered approach, I am here to help you examine what does and does not serve you to create or find new ways to approach life so that you can start thriving rather than surviving.
Feeling stuck? Wanting more connections? It's hard to build and maintain relationships. I work with clients to analyze themselves and how they interact with others. You'll build confidence and communication skills that you can apply to all relationships, while lowering anxiety and managing depression.
I earned my M.Ed. in Counselor Education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. My path into the counseling field has been shaped by a deep passion for both the healing process and holistic wellness. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in various levels of care, including residential and intensive outpatient settings, where I gained invaluable clinical experience and a deeper appreciation for mental health care..
Professionally, I have spent a decade in education (five years as a classroom teacher and five years as a school counselor). This is my third year as a therapist outside of the school setting.
For my masters degree, I attended Texas State University in San Marcos, TX (Eat 'em up cats!). At Texas State, I completed my MA in Professional Counseling with two focuses: school counseling and clinical mental health.
As a former educator, the populations I support include adolescents, young adults, educators, parents/guardians, and caretakers.
Things have been hard lately, or maybe for a while. You aren't feeling like yourself and are wondering what needs to change to feel better. Maybe your mood feels out of whack, your attention or motivation is non-existent, or you're struggling just to do the normal everyday things without having a wave of emotion crashing down on you. Maybe there is trauma in your past you feel ready to process and move on from. Whatever the reason you are seeking help now, things can get better.

Headway makes it easier to connect with affirming therapists who understand your identity — from finding the right therapist, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding an LGBTQIA+-affirming therapist in Austin starts with identifying what kind of support you're looking for. You may want help with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, identity exploration, coming out, or navigating the specific stressors that come with living as an LGBTQIA+ person in Texas. An affirming provider is one who respects and supports your identity as a foundation of care — not something that needs to be explained or justified in session.
Austin has a large community of licensed mental health providers with experience in LGBTQIA+ concerns, including LPCs, LCSWs, psychologists, and psychiatrists. When evaluating a provider, consider their stated specialties, approach to affirming care, and whether they offer the session format that works for you — virtual, in-person, or both. Reading a provider's bio can give you a sense of their style and background before you commit to a first appointment.
Therapy in Austin can be expensive out of pocket, but using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to lower your costs. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs before booking. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, and many patients pay as low as $0 per visit. Every provider listed on Headway is accepting new patients, so you can move from searching to scheduling without the back-and-forth of verifying availability or coverage on your own.
