I am a bilingual (Russian/English) Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addiction Counselor. I graduated with Master’s Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University in 2015 and have been in practice for over 11 years.
My directive yet compassionate style is intuitive, creative, and growth-oriented—encouraging you to explore, challenge, and ultimately expand your capacity for joy and connection.
Education & Background
My goal is to help you understand and accept the many multifaceted aspects of yourself and integrate these aspects, forming a cohesive, harmonious sense of self. Our journey together is about developing a profound self-understanding and acceptance, freeing yourself from entrenched patterns, and healing from past experiences. This process leads to outcomes such as heightened self-awareness, self-confidence, reduced stress, and increased capacity to face the world with your whole, authentic self.
Hi, I’m Shannon. I bring over 20 years of experience in healthcare, including more than a decade as a nurse practitioner. I’ve worked as a family nurse practitioner since 2013, and over time my passion led me to focus my practice on mental wellness and emotional health. My path through many roles in healthcare—from nurse’s aide to NP—shapes a thoughtful, whole-person approach to care.
I specialize in perinatal mental health (pregnancy, postpartum, miscarriage, and loss) as well as anxiety that often shows up as overwhelm, overfunctioning, and constant pressure to hold everything together. Many of my clients are high-capacity women who are used to managing a lot, but feel mentally and emotionally overloaded. I offer a grounded, collaborative space where you don’t have to carry everything alone.
I am a Native New Yorker, living in Colorado since the Mets won the World Series. I use my training in conjunction with my life experience in the therapy room, but it's always your therapy room.
I'm Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Synergetic Play Therapist & Supervisor, and am trained in EMDR trauma therapy. I use Synergetic Psychotherapy and Synergetic Play Therapy (SPT) to help clients get real change without spending years in therapy. The average number of SPT sessions is 15!
I am passionate about mental health, wellness and quality of life. I have been a licensed therapist since 2001 and have 23 plus years of experience working in the mental health field. I am trained in and utilize EMDR. I currently work with individual adults who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and, in general, life's challenges. I believe each individual has within them exactly what they need to heal. It is always an honor and a privilege to partner with my clients.
With over 20 years of experience as a licensed professional counselor, I bring an integrative, creative and genuine approach to therapy. Through a relational perspective, I encourage you to explore, develop awareness and engage in self discovery. Together, I will walk along side you, supporting your trust in your inner healer and creating space for your healing journey to unfold.
I'm Nicole Shelton, a double board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner (APRN, PMHNP, FNP). My experience in ICU and the ER informs my holistic approach to care. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, substance use, and trauma across the lifespan. As a military wife and mother, I emphasize lifestyle balance, encouraging patients to integrate nutrition and exercise. I am dedicated to breaking mental health stigma and advocating for veterans and those impacted by trauma, ensuring you feel seen, supported, and empowered on your journey.
As a relational person, I believe that my connection with a client is an honor. It is of utmost importance to me that your sessions are a safe place to be yourself - whether that means you show up happy, sad, afraid, ashamed, angry, or numb; and a secure place to share ANYTHING and know you will be accepted and honored (never judged). Within this space, I have witnessed deep healing. I am interested in knowing the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. No matter your story, I hold hope that freedom and peace are possible. I believe there isn't a person you wouldn't love if you understood their story.
If you are struggling with the impact of childhood or recent trauma in your life, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, anger, eating disorders, attachment and intimacy difficulties, or recovery from narcissistic abuse; and don't mind a person walking alongside you, I'd love to meet you. My rich experience running intensive outpatient programs in multiple eating disorder treatment centers has given me a unique skill set that easily translates to creative and experiential approaches in individual sessions. I have developed a style of counseling that begins with assessing and building any coping/communication/relational skills needed, followed by the exploration of underlying trauma (little or big) that contributes to a person's suffering in present life. I have come to believe that ignoring one's past pain only leads to a continuation of pain. You can expect me to offer a combination of warmth and kindness, paired with careful and thoughtful challenges to support you in achieving your goals.
My experience as a counselor began in 2005 upon graduating with my Masters in Counseling from Colorado Christian University. I was lucky enough to be trained in EMDR in 2007. Since that time, I’ve received extensive training in the treatment of Trauma, Complex PTSD, somatic approaches, group therapy, Interpersonal & sexual violence/abuse, Codependency, difficulties with anger, Eating disorders, Addictions, and Men's issues to include eating disorders, body dysmorphia, anger issues, relational difficulties, combat trauma, etc. I also have advanced training in treating First Responders. It is important to me to use a faith-based approach if desired/important to my clients, while respecting each person's faith and value system. (I will never tell you what to believe!)
I would be honored to work together to build you up in a life of balance, peace, healing, freedom, and joy. It's hard to surprise me! I've heard it all! I hope you will reach out soon.
