Hello and welcome! I am a doctorally prepared clinical therapist who has 25+ years of experience working with adolescents, young adults, and older adults. I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing, empowering individuals to effectively manage mood, cognition, and behaviors that affect activities of daily living.
Finding the right therapist matters. I believe therapy works best when clients feel genuinely heard, respected, and understood. My style is conversational, collaborative, and direct, balancing warmth with honesty and practical feedback. I work especially well with individuals impacted by trauma, chronic stress, and moral injury arising from high-responsibility environments, including veterans, first responders, and medical professionals. Many appear highly functional outwardly while privately struggling with anxiety, exhaustion, disrupted sleep, or feeling disconnected from themselves, others, or the lives they once recognized.
It has been a privilege to provide psychotherapy to a variety of clients for over 20 years. I have advanced clinical training in trauma, addictions, sexual abuse, mood and personality disorders, and relationships. My therapeutic style is warm, direct, and encouraging. I provide support as you examine core issues and change underlying patterns of behavior or simply gain perspective concerning a recent issue.
My approach to mental health care centers entirely around you. True healing happens when trust, safety, and collaboration come together. Whether you are navigating severe depression, managing long-term anxiety, or recovering from trauma, my goal is to provide a premium, supportive environment where you feel heard and empowered to reclaim a stable, fulfilling life.
As a board-certified adult psychiatrist, I bring unique depth to my clinical practice. I earned both my MD and PhD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, grounding my approach to medication management in advanced scientific research and evidence-based medicine.
My leadership and clinical training within the University of Texas Health System—including roles as Chief Resident, Assistant Medical Director, and Assistant Professor—deeply shaped my view of mental health. Having cared for individuals across institutions like MD Anderson, Memorial Hermann, the Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center, and Maui Memorial Medical Center, I possess the outpatient and inpatient expertise required to manage complex clinical cases with complete confidence.
I provide convenient, high-quality telepsychiatry and virtual care for adults (ages 18 and older) actively located in Texas, California, Hawaii, and Alaska.
Primary Clinical Focus Areas:
Above all, I believe in partnering with you as a collaborative ally. My practice is a safe, sophisticated space where clinical excellence is a given, and we work together to help you rediscover hope and transformation.
Great to meet you! As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years in the mental health field and 16 years practicing therapy, I bring a wealth of experience to our work together. While I welcome clients of all ages, I specialize in supporting children and adolescents, with a standout focus on ADHD. When working with adults, my areas of expertise include navigating anxiety, processing grief, and building self-esteem. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where we can tackle these challenges together and help you or your child thrive.
I believe that healthy change starts from within and my role is to be a guide during this process. Often times we feel we are stuck in a rut with no way out, but together we'll work on building self-empowerment, better self-care, and self-awareness. No matter what you're going through there's always room to learn and grow from the past to make a better future. I specialize in anxiety disorders, trauma and PTSD, and building self-confidence. I'm also trained in Brainspotting.
I started my career working with adolescents that were pregnant and parenting in high school. This opened the door to my various experiences working with young, growing adults and families. In the heart of St. Louis, MO, as a school-based therapist, I gained further knowledge of the racial and poverty challenges taking place in our communities. Fast forward three years and becoming a social worker in Colorado, I managed a variety of cases involving children and adolescents experiencing trauma, parental abuse and neglect, couples counseling and mediation, and managing chaotic situations. In this time, not only did it allow me to gain experience in the child welfare and court systems, it reminded me of my true passion and brought me back to my primary focus. I am happy to be back on track with my passion in therapy and helping adolescents, families, and couples in their time of crisis or distress.
I’m Dr. Heather Cromwell, a Licensed Professional Counselor providing telehealth therapy to adults in Alaska and Oregon. I have over 10 years of experience working in behavioral health across outpatient, inpatient, and community mental health settings, including extensive work with individuals experiencing serious and persistent mental illness, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, burnout, and emotional overwhelm.
My background includes a Ph.D. and Master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, along with years of leadership and program development experience in behavioral healthcare. I bring both clinical expertise and a practical, person-centered approach to therapy.
I believe therapy works best when clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and emotionally safe. My style is warm, collaborative, direct when helpful, and grounded in authenticity. I work to create a space where clients can better understand themselves, strengthen coping skills, improve relationships, process difficult experiences, and move toward meaningful change at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.
I understand that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, and I strive to make the process feel approachable and comfortable from the very beginning.
