I am a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner based in Minnesota. I specialize in diagnosing and providing medication management for mental disorders such as ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Psychotic disorders, Mood Disorders, Substance use Disorders, Eating Disorders, and more.
Taking that initial step into therapy can be daunting. Sharing your story is a vulnerable position no doubt, and I am proud of you for even making the decision to seek help. Because I know how much courage this takes, I absolutely promise to honor you and walk alongside of you as you work towards your goals in counseling. In addition to helping individuals with anxiety and depression, I am certified in dialectical behavior therapy and practice accelerated resolution therapy. I also incorporate christian counseling, sand-tray therapy, mindfulness based-therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and incorporate narrative therapy techniques.
I have worked collectively for 31 years in public safety, crisis work, training and mental/chemical health. During my 16 years in law enforcement (LE) my experiences included being a Sergeant, SWAT Team Leader, Negotiator, Critical Incident Facilitator and Trainer. My experience in LE has led me to my passion in how trauma impacts our first responders. I have used my own experience as a first responder and woman in recovery, to transcend into my current role of a mental health and chemical health therapist working with not only first responders - police, fire, military, dispatchers, front line workers and corrections officers, but also any survivor, individual struggling with LGBT issues, addiction, relational struggles or trauma. I am able to be a conduit of change, sharing the journey with those who face the everyday stressful events, trauma or finding one's true identity. We are never alone. I am here to be a safe place and safe person to share and divide your pain. I am here to honor your experiences, share your success and build your resilience and healing.
I am a military veteran with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, with a specialized focus over the past decade on men’s mental health, including court-ordered assessments and mandated treatment services. My clinical approach is grounded primarily in evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which I utilize to support clients in developing emotional regulation, coping skills, and sustainable behavioral change. In my current role, I conduct comprehensive mental health screenings, coordinate and oversee integrated care services, and provide direct clinical support within a substance use inpatient treatment setting. Additionally, I dedicate part of my practice to serving a rural Tribal Native American community through a mental health clinic, where I provide culturally responsive and community-informed care.
I also strongly advocate for men navigating systems where they are often disproportionately penalized or misunderstood, working to ensure their mental health needs are appropriately recognized and addressed within legal, correctional, and treatment environments. My professional focus includes supporting fair, trauma-informed approaches that balance accountability with rehabilitation. I have specialized experience working with individuals diagnosed with psychotic disorders and mood disorders, providing psychoeducation to clients and their families—particularly during the early stages of diagnosis—and delivering life skills training to promote stability, independence, and long-term success in community living.
Hello, I’m Therese. I work with adults who may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted by patterns that no longer feel manageable.
I support individuals navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, chronic illness, and concerns related to eating disorders or disordered eating patterns.
I also have lots of experience helping people to live tobacco and/or nicotine free!
My approach is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental.
I strive to create a calm, safe space where you can speak openly and feel understood.
If you are looking for someone who listens deeply, values connection, and takes a thoughtful, whole-person approach, I would be honored to support you.
I am empathetic, compassionate and listen actively to my patients.
Hello there, my name is Josie! I enjoy being a therapist because I have experienced the benefits of therapy myself, I enjoy working with people, and I believe life is worth living, but sometimes we need an extra person in our corner to help us navigate the ups and downs of this life.

Headway makes it easier to find support for overcoming addiction — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding addiction therapists in Saint Paul starts with knowing what kind of support fits your needs. Addiction care can include support for alcohol use, drug use, compulsive behaviors, relapse prevention, and the mental health concerns that may occur alongside substance use. As you compare therapists, look for experience with approaches such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy for substance use, harm reduction, or coordination with medication-assisted care. Some people may also work with a psychiatrist or other prescriber as part of their care team.
Saint Paul has a range of local therapy options, and virtual appointments can expand your search beyond offices near your home, work, or school. Recovery can take different paths, so it helps to find a therapist who describes their approach in clear, nonjudgmental terms and has experience with harm reduction, abstinence-based support, or both. Before booking, read therapist bios for details about addiction specialties, appointment availability, session structure, and whether a free phone consultation is offered.
Addiction counseling in Saint Paul can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before your first appointment. Headway helps you compare addiction therapists who are accepting new patients, review their profiles, verify your insurance, see estimated out-of-pocket costs, and book directly when you’re ready.
If you or someone you know is experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms — especially from alcohol or benzodiazepines — talk to a medical provider or seek emergency care before starting outpatient therapy. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction or substance use and is in a crisis, immediately reach out to:
* 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — call or text 988 * SAMHSA National Helpline — 1-800-662-HELP (4357), free, confidential, 24/7 * Crisis Text Line — text HOME to 741741
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
