My name is Glen Alan Ensinger. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado. I lived in Colorado for over one year and was licensed last March. I have been licensed as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois since 2002. I have provided crisis counseling and domestic violence counseling for perpetrators and victims. I completed my master's degree at Western Illinois University which included a practicum and internship at White Oaks in Peoria, Illinois. This is a substance abuse program. I have worked at a school for children with behavioral problems and also have provided counseling and crisis services at a community mental health center. For approximately 10 years I was on clinical staff for the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois where I provided counseling services for clients in the HIV program. I worked over 8 years at the 9th Judicial Court in Illinois as a court services therapist. I have a private practice that includes working for programs that helped children either get adopted or return home from the foster care program (or help parents get the children returned to them). I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, ADHD, identity exploration, grief, chronic illness, and end-of-life concerns.
Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by emotional ups and downs, struggling with relationship conflict, managing substance use concerns, or coping with co-occurring disorders like anxiety and depression alongside addiction. You may feel stuck in repeating family patterns, battling intrusive thoughts, experiencing mood instability, panic attacks, impulsivity, or feeling disconnected from yourself and others.
With experience in inpatient treatment settings and diverse cultural environments, I bring a deep appreciation for the complexity of the human experience. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and culturally responsive, and I approach each client with curiosity, compassion, and respect for their lived experience.
I often say “we” when talking to clients because I’ve lived through many of the circumstances they find themselves in . I know they need information to better understand what they are dealing with . Additionally , I believe they need empathy and patience as they move forward toward the best days of their lives .
I’m an LCSW, and my practice name, Life Shift Happens, comes from a truth I see every single day: people don’t come to therapy because they’re broken. They come because life stopped unfolding the way they expected, and they feel entirely stuck. A lot of the humans I work with are incredibly thoughtful and trying so hard. They usually don't lack insight; they’ve read the coping skills and talked things through with friends. Yet, they still find themselves procrastinating, shutting down, or feeling completely frozen by past stuff. When that happens, change isn’t a matter of forcing more willpower. It requires slowing down to look at the patterns and defense mechanisms we build to protect ourselves when life gets heavy.
My style is collaborative, deeply conversational, and entirely human. I’m not here to judge, lecture, or pretend I have all the answers. Instead, I’m active in our sessions through asking questions, noticing patterns, and gently pushing back when I see you getting in your own way. We will work on the practical things like boundaries, follow-through, and managing emotions, while sitting with the messy overthinking, panic, burnout, or feeling checked out underneath it all. Therapy with me is a relationship where we make sense of the sudden crises and quiet paralyses that come with life shifts. The goal isn’t a perfect, flawless life, but rather a therapeutic space where you can figure out what changed, sprinkle in compassion, and learn how to move forward in a way that feels genuinely your own.
