Hello, I’m Kelly Huggins!
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with 30 years of nursing experience.
Because the world of mental health acronyms can be confusing, I like to be clear about my role: I am a specialized advanced practice nurse, not a traditional talk therapist. My primary focus is on medical and diagnostic care, featuring carefully tailored medication management. However, I firmly believe that medicine is only part of the puzzle. That is why supportive psychotherapy is deeply woven into our sessions together, alongside guidance on lifestyle changes to support your daily wellness. If you ever need deep, ongoing traditional therapy, I am always happy to connect you with trusted therapists to round out your care team.
When I’m not partnering with patients, I love being a mom, a wife, and an avid traveler exploring the world!
Meeting clients where they are is my specialty. I have extensive experience and training working with survivors of trauma and clients who are facing grief and loss. I offer space for holistic approaches that clients embrace and utilize beyond therapy, and encourage them to grow and heal.

As a dedicated therapist with a rich background in crisis intervention and community support, I bring a unique blend of experience and compassion to my work. I enjoy working with individual teens, adults, couples, and families around a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, ADHD, Spectrum, relationships, divorce, blended families, parenting, anger management, and low self-esteem; struggling with the challenges of everyday life. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process; where I assist in increasing self-awareness and personal strengths so there can be new perspectives gained while decreasing unwanted symptoms, and people can have a more meaningful life experience. I want to offer support, insight and compassion to help you cope with or overcome your challenges. I will work with you to facilitate positive change and the adoption of healthier attitudes and responses; you don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone.

My experience over the past 30years includes working with grief, anxiety, depression, addiction/ recovery. I enjoy working with the military both active duty and veterans as I understand the military culture. You are not a diagnosis to me, but someone who has strengths that need to be bought to the surface.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Searching for therapists in Kensington starts with knowing what kind of support you want and which therapist background fits your needs. People often look for care for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, work stress, or life transitions. As you compare therapists, look for training and listed specialties that match what you want to focus on. A therapist’s profile can also show whether they use approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, or acceptance and commitment therapy.
Kensington is a smaller market, so nearby in-person options may vary by schedule, specialty, and office location. Virtual appointments can expand your choices across Maryland while still letting you work with a therapist licensed in the state. As you narrow your search, consider appointment availability, whether the therapist offers a free phone consultation, and how their bio describes session style. Reading profiles before booking can help you understand what to expect and choose someone whose approach fits your preferences.
Therapy in Kensington can be a significant cost without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and make ongoing care easier to plan for. Headway helps you find therapists who accept a wide range of insurance plans, see estimated costs before booking, and choose from therapists who are accepting new patients. You can browse profiles, compare availability, and book directly when you’re ready.
