Hi, I’m Samantha Maybern, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for helping individuals and families feel supported, understood, and empowered. I have experience working with children, adults, and families facing anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral concerns, life transitions, and relationship stress. My approach is compassionate, practical, and strengths-based, while also honoring each client’s values and personal journey. I believe healing happens through connection, trust, and learning new ways to move forward.
I earned my BSN from Duke University in 2014, my Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) degree from Gonzaga University in 2017, and my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2020. I also completed a Plant-Based Nutrition certification through Cornell University. My background spans both community and mental health care, including experience at a large community health center in Washington, DC, where I worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life circumstances. My foundation in family medicine has given me extensive experience caring for people with co-occurring mental health and complex medical conditions. I also have significant experience supporting individuals who have experienced trauma and strive to provide compassionate, whole-person care that meets each patient's unique needs.
Are you questioning your relationship with substances or other behaviors, and want to make changes?
Is your child engaging in substance use or other risky/addictive behaviors, and you want to artfully guide them towards healthier decisions, or they’re interested in shifting their use?
Would you like support with creating family screen guidelines that keep your kids healthy, safe, and responsible, while reducing battles over it all?
Are you disconnected from your adolescent and eager for "teen whispering" skills to improve your relationship?
Then I’ve got you!
In the middle of college, at 19, I found myself in rehab, struggling with multiple addictions. This rerouted me from my dreams of Broadway to sparking a 30+ year career in the fields of prevention, early intervention and treatment of substance use disorders and other addictions. I have worked in inpatient and outpatient substance use treatment with adolescents and adults, in therapeutic schools, as a middle and high school counselor, and as a parenting coach.
I’m licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor, Prevention Specialist, and certified in Digital Health & Wellness. It's also important you know that my own family and close social circle are diverse humans, and I'm comfortable and specially trained to work with LGBTQ+, racial, cultural and religious diversity.
Hey — I'm genuinely glad you're here. I'm Tamika, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor based in North Carolina. I work with adults, children, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, family conflict, addiction, and the kind of stress that builds quietly over time until it's hard to ignore. I specialize in working with Black and BIPOC clients, women, and families who want a therapist who truly gets the cultural and personal context of their lives — not just a clinical checklist. My practice is fully telehealth, so you can access support from anywhere in North Carolina without the commute or the waiting room. I accept Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, and other major insurance plans, because access to quality mental health care shouldn't be a financial obstacle.

Headway makes it easier to find support for overcoming addiction — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding addiction therapists in Charlotte starts with knowing what kind of support fits your needs. Addiction care can include support for alcohol use, substance use, drug use, compulsive behaviors, relapse prevention, and related concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship strain. As you compare therapists, look for training and listed specialties that match your situation. Some therapists use motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy for substance use, harm reduction, or coordination with medication-assisted care when a prescriber is part of your care team.
Charlotte has many therapy options across neighborhoods and nearby areas, which can make it harder to narrow your search. Start with the basics: whether you want in-person appointments or virtual sessions, whether the therapist is accepting new patients, and whether their schedule fits yours. Recovery can involve changes over time, so it also helps to look for a therapist whose bio reflects a nonjudgmental style and experience with substance use care. Reading profiles before booking can give you a clearer sense of each therapist’s approach, structure, and communication style.
Addiction therapy in Charlotte can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and make care easier to plan for. Headway helps you search for therapists who match your needs, confirm your insurance, and see your estimated out-of-pocket cost before your first session. You can review bios, compare availability, and book directly when you’re ready.
