Therapy isn’t what it used to be. It doesn’t have to be stuffy or scary. I want you to feel comfortable, safe, and enjoy the process! This is your journey, your time, and your money, so I want to make sure the experience is tailored to you and your needs.
The first step toward change is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are. I applaud you for taking that step! I would be honored to create a collaborative space to explore the barriers that may be keeping you from where and who you want to be. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, and owner of Do The Work Counseling Services, PLLC.
I have been working in the mental health field for many years and have had the privilege of supporting individuals through many of life’s challenges. Over time, I have seen firsthand the stressors and unexpected difficulties that life can bring. While we cannot always prevent these challenges—because life will continue to be life—we can learn healthier ways to cope, grow, and move forward.
My role is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can explore your experiences, develop practical tools, and gain insight into the patterns that may be affecting your well-being. I am here to offer guidance, encouragement, and support as we work together toward your goals and toward creating a life that feels more balanced, meaningful, and manageable.
Hi, I’m Mariam Opafunso, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Ohio University and have experience working in both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health settings. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other mood-related concerns, as well as eating-related conditions in adolescents and adults.
Outside of my professional role, I value balance and growth, and I show up fully for the people I serve. I understand that seeking help can feel overwhelming, and I create a space where you feel comfortable, respected, and truly heard.
I am dedicated to providing compassionate, bilingual (English / Native Spanish) psychotherapy to clients who are navigating life’s most challenging moments, especially those dealing with anxiety, depression, major life transitions (such as cancer diagnosis, grief, trauma). I specialize in working with individuals and their families, supporting them in navigating emotions, distress, and resilience during challenging times. I provide a safe, supportive space where individuals can process emotions, develop coping skills, and find strength in the face of adversity.
My educational and professional background is in psychology and education, and I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
I assist children, teens, young adults, and adults work through tough times and difficult emotions, life’s transitions, and relationship challenges. Whether it’s a child with big feelings and educational barriers, a teen feeling isolated and unsure of themselves, or an adult attempting to navigate anxiety, stress, burnout, or identity shifts - I offer a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore what’s going on and facilitate lasting change.
I am a Texas Native, who loves being outdoors and traveling to new places. I value a non-judgmental space that promotes authenticity, compassion, collaboration and clarity. I am committed to creating a safe space that is driven by your needs and goals.
I specialize in working with adolescents and adults.
I work with adolescents facing behavioral issues, self-esteem concerns, emotional, social and academic struggles, and stress. I also have a strong focus on supporting justice-involved and at-risk teenagers.
I work with adults in helping provide guidance through relationship challenges, emotional and work-related stress, and significant life transitions.
Across all age groups, I'm committed to helping individuals with a wide range of issues including: anxiety, depression, self-esteem and self-confidence, family conflict, addiction, academic and career conflict, as well as to help process trauma and loss. Together we will work to unlock healing, growth & create a more fulfilling life.
I believe therapy is a space where you don’t have to hold everything together on your own. Many of the women I work with come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or unsure of who they are becoming after life transitions, relational wounds, or long-standing expectations placed on them. You may be functioning on the outside, yet internally feel anxious, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you.
I specialize in working with women navigating anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and the emotional impact of trauma—both big, defining moments and the quieter, cumulative experiences that shape how we see ourselves and others. A core focus of my work is supporting minority women and those experiencing identity rupture—the feeling of losing, questioning, or redefining who you are due to cultural pressures, relational conflict, motherhood, systemic stress, or major life transitions.
I am laid back, and make you feel like you are talking more to a friend than a therapist. My current clients love this.
