Greetings! My name is Kara Stewart, I am a licensed professional counselor licensed in the state of Georgia and Virginia. I have worked in the mental health field for over 20 years and have a passion for assisting others with finding their sense of wholeness and fulfillment. I obtained a M.S. in Counseling and Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I also have a M.S. in Mental Health and Wellness with an emphasis in Christian Ministry. I specialize in trauma, grief, life transitions, and other mood disorders.
I specialize in working with interpersonal conflict, behavioral issues, anxiety, life cycle transitions, depression, and helping clients recognize and build on strengths to overcome challenges.
I hope to help you transform those painful, self-limiting beliefs and old patterns into realistic and affirming ones. The process I most often use incorporates bilateral stimulation of the brain. This is a simple technique that often has profound results. It has been shown to move clients very quickly towards the core healing, which is central to lasting results. One of the key benefits of this therapy is the ability to approach new situations /people with creativity, clarity, and new problem-solving techniques. This often occurs spontaneously as part of the process.
I work with individuals, couples, and families of all ages. I have a Masters in Clinical Health Psychology and a Masters in Nutrition/Dietetics, which helps lend to a holistic approach to my work with clients. I commonly work with health behavioral change, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, ADHD, OCD, and relationship change. My treatment approach utilizes a biopsychosocial lense in long-term therapy based in psychodynamic, strengths-based, and integrative work in overall health. I utilize coping skills from CBT, DBT, ACT, and Mindfulness. I incorporated life-skills such a assertiveness, boundaries, and career.
I love the work that I do and the healing relationships I have been able to foster with my clients. I believe that therapy is a form of self-care and I want to be an advocate of that for my clients. I welcome anyone who thinks they may want some support, whether long-term or short-term to reach out to me and set up a brief phone consultation.
