Hello, and welcome. My name is Patricia Mathison, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) dedicated to supporting individuals in navigating life’s challenges with compassion, clarity, and practical tools for growth.
I bring a strong professional background in mental health counseling, with experience working with diverse populations. My work has allowed me to support clients through concerns such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and stress-related challenges.
I earned my Master’s in Counseling and Psychology from Lesley University, where I received comprehensive training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches. I continue to stay current in the field through ongoing professional development and training.
My areas of specialization include anxiety and depressive disorders, trauma, mood disorders, self-esteem, or relationship issues. I often draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, mindfulness-based techniques, tailoring each session to meet the unique needs and goals of the individual.
I believe therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, respect, and authenticity. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and supported as you work toward meaningful change.
Whether you’re seeking support for a specific concern or looking to better understand yourself, I am here to help you move forward with confidence and resilience.
In a world where there is endless advice, online "experts" and seemingly easy fixes, it can be challenging to hit a roadblock and find that nothing feels quite right. Whether it is depression, anxiety, or just a general sense that something is “off”, it keeps you stuck. And you just can't figure out how to fix it. While I have no answers, I offer a place to pause, reflect, and talk about what’s been holding you back. And most importantly, what you want to happen next.
I do Individual, Couples, Family, and Group Therapy. I currently facilitate a Bereavement Group which meets at my Brookline office every Saturday from 2-4pm. I also run groups for substance abuse, depression and anxiety. In addition, I have a lot of experience counseling children of all ages. I am a firm believer in strength-based psychotherapy.

Finding the right therapist in Mattapoisett starts with getting clear on what you need. Whether you're looking for support with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or a life transition, choosing a licensed provider who specializes in your area of concern can make a meaningful difference. Mattapoisett is a small community on the South Coast, so expanding your search to include virtual sessions with Massachusetts-licensed providers gives you access to a much larger network.
Therapy in Massachusetts can be costly out of pocket, but using your in-network insurance benefits is one of the most straightforward ways to reduce what you pay per session. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs upfront, and your out-of-pocket expense may be as low as $0 per session depending on your plan and coverage. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans.
When reviewing providers, look beyond credentials to understand their approach and style. On Headway, each provider profile includes details about their background, specialties, and how they work with clients. Many providers also offer a free phone consultation, so you can see if it's a good fit before committing to a session.
