Your voice matters. Your feelings matter. You are important and you matter.
After more than a decade of work with clients, I believe we have an innate ability to adapt and heal when given the right space to do so. I enjoy creating an empowering space where clients access their internal strengths and confidently create the change they desire.
Counseling is a place of acceptance where you can learn to see your true value. You hold the keys to your happiness. You just need support to unlock that door. Doing it alone will keep you stuck. You can learn to trust again. I received specialized training in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am also a Registered Play Therapist and enhance parent-child communication. I have an office where I see individuals and families. I also have two large rooms where I teach parents how to use Play Therapy Skills.
I believe there is power in learning to balance our lives emotionally and spiritually. I have 20-plus years as a counselor and have been able to help clients find emotional and general life balance. I draw from primary treatment modalities of Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Solution Focused, Psychodynamic and Existential Theories. Ideally, at the conclusion of counseling, a client will be able to actively deal with their internal states in a way that allows them to feel more at peace with increased self-esteem, and well-being.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the state of North Carolina. I began my journey into social work and counseling after being honorably discharged from the US Army in 2006. Due to a lengthy combat tour overseas in Iraq, I was able to gain firsthand knowledge and understanding about the devastating effects Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Close friends of mine were irrevocably changed before my eyes, and I needed to understand why that transition took place. I utilized my G.I. Bill and obtained my Master’s Degree. I have been in the social work field for over eight years, working in various settings: veteran’s programs, residential treatment facilities for youth, outpatient treatment and a substance abuse treatment facility. I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care.
My belief is that real change can occur in one’s life when they work with a therapist who is genuine and unbiased; someone who has a desire to see others moving forward and living their lives to the fullest. It would be a true honor to be that individual for you or your loved one.
My goal is to help you identify challenges, improve coping and determine the next steps toward meaningful, lasting change.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience in various settings. I am dedicated to supporting clients by fostering a collaborative, trusting and empathetic environment.
My name is Alyssa Hooker and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2022 and my Master of Social Work (MSW) through the Joint Master of Social Work Program between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2023.
I work with individuals across the lifespan, providing a supportive and collaborative space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. My approach is strengths-centered, meeting people where they are while helping them work toward meaningful and realistic goals.
I support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, interpersonal stressors, and life transitions. I am familiar with a range of therapeutic modalities and tailor my approach to each person’s unique needs.
A fun fact about me is that I enjoy coffee and spending time with friends and family.
I see counseling as a walk between two people, a time to discuss the ups and downs of life. I am person centered; solution focused and draw from a wide range of CBT mindfulness and Accelerated Resolution Therapy techniques that will help my clients find their own unique path in life.
I have devoted extra time to Impact Therapy, which provides the client with immediate support and constant feedback. We don't waste time, and client wellbeing is the focus of each session. I've also completed Level II NARM training for clients with severe/complex trauma, and I look forward to using these models to provide the best possible outcome.
