For over 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals untangle the weight of trauma, stress, and life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to navigate this alone. Whether you’re feeling on edge, disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, therapy can be a place to finally exhale.
I have vast experience with a wide variety of clients. My professional history includes children living in abusive environments, teenagers who are struggling to access their education due to mental health concerns, families navigating dysfunction and adults dealing with a variety of life difficulties.
I currently work, primarily, in corrections with inmates struggling to adjust to the custody environment. I offer crisis intervention in addition to ongoing support.
I approach the therapeutic space with compassion and openness. I meet my clients right where they are emotionally and in their healing journey.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years of experience providing mental health services in behavioral health, crisis intervention, community mental health, and medical settings. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, family conflict, and other emotional challenges.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and trauma-informed. I believe healing happens when clients feel safe, understood, and empowered. I work alongside clients to build on their strengths, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.
Throughout my career, I have provided therapy and clinical support in outpatient, community-based, hospital, college mental health, and correctional settings. In my private practice, I provide bilingual psychotherapy to individuals and families experiencing trauma, stress, relationship challenges, parenting concerns, and behavioral health issues. I also have extensive experience supporting foster, adoptive, and biological families caring for children impacted by trauma and attachment-related difficulties.
My professional background includes crisis stabilization, risk assessment, treatment planning, wraparound services, and multidisciplinary care coordination for youth and families with complex needs. I am also a part-time lecturer in the School of Social Work at San Diego State University, where I teach and mentor future social workers.
I am passionate about culturally responsive care, equity in mental health services, and helping clients feel empowered throughout their healing journey. I provide services in both English and Spanish and welcome clients from all backgrounds.
My name is Rene and I’m a down-to-earth therapist who specializes in substance use and trauma, and I love helping people feel hopeful again during some of the hardest and most confusing chapters of their lives. I also support clients navigating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, family and relationship struggles, stress, and women’s issues. I especially enjoy working with women rebuilding identity and confidence after difficult life experiences.
People often tell me they feel comfortable with me quickly. My goal is simple: to meet you exactly where you are — whether that’s overwhelmed, stuck, healing, hopeful, or unsure — and help you find freedom, opportunity, and solid ground again. If faith or Christian counseling is meaningful to you, I’m happy to incorporate spirituality into our work together. And if not — that’s perfectly okay too. Therapy with me is about your values and your journey.

You are the one everyone relies on - the strong one. Even when you’re running on empty, you keep showing up, holding it together, and pushing through. On the outside, you look composed. Inside, you might feel exhausted, unseen, or detached from yourself. I work with adults break free from patterns that keep them stuck in survival mode. We will work on reconnecting with your needs, rebuilding self trust, and creating a balanced, authentic relationship with yourself. I bring a compassionate, steady presence to therapy; no cold stares or awkward silences. Just a real human connection, where you can feel safe enough to show up. As a therapist for the past 9 years and someone who has navigated my own share of life’s complexities, I understand the invisible weight we often carry; anxiety, depression, expectations, and the pressure to hold everything together.
Choosing the right therapist is important, so I offer a free 15-20 minute phone or video consultation to discuss your needs and ensure we’re a good fit. There’s no pressure; this call is simply an opportunity for you to learn more and decide if you’d like to move forward with therapy. You may take your time after the call to decide whether to move forward.
I have been practicing since 2000. I have worked in many healthcare and non-profit settings both while obtaining my education and in professional roles. I have a Doctor of Psychology degree in Clinical Psychology and have successfully treated many individuals, families and adolescents.

Searching for therapists in Encinitas starts with finding someone whose training matches what you want support with. Therapists may work with concerns like anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, trauma, and life transitions. As you compare Encinitas therapists, look for listed specialties, therapy approaches, and experience with your specific needs. A therapist’s bio can help you understand how they structure sessions, what concerns they often support, and whether their style feels like a good fit.
Encinitas is a smaller coastal city, so local in-person appointment options may vary by neighborhood and schedule. Virtual therapy can expand your search across licensed therapists in California while still letting you filter for someone who fits your preferences. Consider practical factors like appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, session format, and whether a free phone consultation is offered. Reading profiles before booking can help you compare communication style, therapeutic approach, and what to expect in a first session.
Therapy in Encinitas can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and see your estimated out-of-pocket cost before you book. Headway helps you find many therapists who accept insurance, are accepting new patients, and offer virtual or in-person care. You can browse therapists, review bios, check your insurance, and book directly when you’re ready.
