My goal as a Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist is to create a safe, affirming and collaborative space for individuals to explore the complexities of life. Therapy can be a daunting experience; therefore, I like to meet people where they are at in their therapy journey.
About Gene C. Hauser, MA, MDiv, NCC, LPC-S:
I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor (LPC-S) in Texas, with over 20 years of experience. I have dedicated my career to supporting individuals facing significant life challenges. My work has included empowering disabled Veterans, unhoused individuals, and those navigating severe mental health difficulties.
My education and training include a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio (2006), a Master of Divinity from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary (1998), and a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN (1998)
I blend evidence-based approaches with a deep commitment to fostering growth, self-awareness, and resilience. My therapeutic philosophy is rooted in dignity, respect, and the equitable distribution of power throughout the counseling process. I promote the importance that every person feels heard, valued, and recognize their capacity for personal transformation.
Things have been hard lately, or maybe for a while. You aren't feeling like yourself and are wondering what needs to change to feel better. Maybe your mood feels out of whack, your attention or motivation is non-existent, or you're struggling just to do the normal everyday things without having a wave of emotion crashing down on you. Maybe there is trauma in your past you feel ready to process and move on from. Whatever the reason you are seeking help now, things can get better.
Now taking new clients! I am a License Professional Counselor and the owner of Enrichment Counseling. My goal is to help educate clients on mental health, support them in working on improving self and assist with adjusting to life's many changes. I love to work with clients willing to grow and find more understanding in life, by providing a compassionate, non-biases environment to help them grow.
Empowering Growth Through Compassionate, Personalized Therapy
Welcome to Free Your Mind Counseling, where healing meets authenticity. My practice is founded on the belief that every individual deserves a safe and supportive space to heal, grow, and thrive. I provide personalized, culturally responsive therapy for trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and life transitions—grounded in empathy, respect, and collaboration.
I specialize in existential, eclectic, and integrative therapies, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic, Humanistic, and Experiential frameworks. This flexible, holistic approach allows me to meet clients where they are—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually—rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method.
My academic foundation includes a Master of Arts in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Juvenile Justice. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas, a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and bring over a decade of experience in the criminal justice system, substance use recovery programs, and diverse mental health settings.
I am also completing my Doctoral degree at Houston Christian University in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, majoring in Executive Mental Health and Human Services—a reflection of my commitment to advancing mental health leadership and community impact.
My philosophy centers on helping clients discover purpose, balance, and self-acceptance through integrative, trauma-informed care. I believe in engaging deeply—not just listening, but empowering transformation. My mission is to create a nonjudgmental space where healing isn’t just possible—it’s expected.
Seeking therapy can feel vulnerable, and my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and not judged. I work with clients ages 9 and up, including individuals, couples, and families, who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, or patterns in relationships that feel hard to change. I’m especially passionate about helping people build healthier relationships—with themselves first, and then with others. Whether you’re navigating challenges in intimate relationships, family dynamics, friendships, or simply trying to feel more grounded in who you are, I believe meaningful change is possible with the right support. I offer both virtual and in-person sessions and value meeting clients where they are—emotionally, relationally, and practically.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I hold a master's degree in Christian Counseling. I have experience working as a minster in a college ministry setting and a grief counselor with a non-profit hospice. I am comfortable counseling individuals and couples who have lost loved ones. I also have experience helping couples prepare for marriage and working through conflict in marriage.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 16 years experience helping people with a variety of personal issues. I am a graduate of Abilene Christian University and University of Texas at Austin. Prior to counseling, I worked 25 years teaching parents to cope with life transitions due to childbearing and parenting. My counseling experience includes private practice focusing on anxiety, depression, trauma, panic, stress management, grief, as well as community service and hospice social work.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right therapist in Texas starts with getting clear on what you're looking for. Consider the concerns you want to address — whether that's anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, or something else — and look for a licensed provider with experience in that area. Texas-licensed therapists include Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs), and psychologists, each with different training backgrounds. Reading a provider's bio can help you understand their approach and decide if they're a good match.
With Texas being the second-largest state in the country, access to in-person care varies widely depending on where you live. Virtual therapy makes it possible to connect with a licensed provider from anywhere in the state, whether you're in a major metro area or a smaller community. Many providers on Headway offer both virtual and in-person sessions, so you can choose what works best for your schedule and preferences.
Therapy in Texas can be expensive without insurance. Using your in-network benefits is one of the most reliable ways to reduce what you pay out of pocket. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs before you book, and many patients pay as low as $0 per session. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, making it easier to find a therapist who fits your needs and your budget.
