I really believe that as a therapist, it’s my role to understand you—to truly see and hear you. For us to develop a strong rapport, it’s essential that I put myself in your shoes. I have effective techniques to help you feel better, but what matters most is that you feel I “get” you. If at any point you don’t, I want you to know it’s completely safe to speak up so we can work through it together. I always strive to create a space where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and emotions, and where healing can naturally take place. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you on your path toward growth and wellbeing.
I’m a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Mente Serena Counseling. I hold a B.S. in Psychology and a M.A in Forensic and Legal Psychology and a M.A. in Counseling. I’ve worked with children, teens, and adults across different settings. As the daughter of Dominican immigrant parents, I understand how culture, family, and life experiences shape who we are. I now primarily support teens and adults navigating anxiety, life transitions, and everyday stress, and I’m passionate about creating a space where you feel seen and understood.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right therapist in Virginia starts with getting clear on what you need. Whether you're looking for help with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, or another challenge, choosing a licensed provider who specializes in your area of concern can make a meaningful difference. Virginia-licensed therapists include LPCs, LCSWs, psychologists, and psychiatrists, each with different training and approaches.
With providers spread across Northern Virginia, Richmond, Hampton Roads, and beyond, practical factors matter too. Think about whether you prefer in-person sessions close to home or the flexibility of virtual appointments. Many therapists in Virginia offer both. Reading a provider's bio before booking can help you understand their style, background, and areas of focus so you feel more confident going in.
Therapy in Virginia can be expensive out of pocket, but using your in-network insurance benefits is one of the most reliable ways to lower costs. On Headway, you can enter your insurance information to see an estimated session cost before you book. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, and your out-of-pocket cost may be as low as $0 per session depending on your specific plan and location.
