Hello, I’m happy to meet you and begin working with you as a therapist who specializes in trauma. The following information includes my professional background, the therapeutic services I provide, and the rights and responsibilities that will guide our work together. Please feel free to ask me any questions that you have.
My Education and Experience: I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology, a master’s degree in Sociology with a clinical emphasis, a doctoral degree in Applied Sociology with a clinical specialization, and I’m a Certified Clinical Sociologist through the Association of Applied and Clinical Sociology. I completed a master’s degree in clinical social work (MSW) with a specialization in Trauma and Interpersonal Violence in 2022 and am a fully licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I earned my previous degrees in Kentucky from Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville. I completed my MSW through Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts. My past clinical work has focused on family preservation and child welfare through in-home crisis intervention, family reunification services, parenting education and independent living skills, supervised visitation for children residing in foster care, and custodial mediation and visitation for co-parenting separated or divorced couples. I’ve also worked for the states of Kentucky and Virginia as a child welfare analyst, consultant, and educator. Additional work has included forensic interviewing, case management support for child advocacy centers, and expert testimony in court cases involving child maltreatment and domestic violence as a Qualified Mental Health Professional in (QMHP) Virginia and Kentucky.
I received My Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health Science because I care so much about the Earth and the creatures that inhabit it. But I soon realized that if I was not interacting with people (or animals) that the work I was doing seemed irrelevant.
Then caring for my terminally ill stepmother led me first towards nursing, then to Social Work.
Since getting my MSW, I have worked In a wide variety of settings ranging from domestic violence shelters to a medical hospital to a homeless day center. I believe that despite our varied backgrounds and beliefs, we are all good at the core and want to be physically and emotionally healthy in order to make the most of our lives. Some of us have learned bad habits by being told, or telling ourselves, that certain things are not possible or us and that is rarely the case.
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with several years of experience and I specialize in treating young adults, adults, and seniors. My clinical background has afforded me the fulfilling opportunity to support the mental wellness of individuals from all backgrounds. I believe in evidence-based treatment- I specialize in interventional modalities, and I now conduct Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for depression in our Charlotte office.
With 20 years of clinical experience, I specialize in exposure to trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and fertility issues. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill (BA Psychology), and from Harvard University with my Master's of Education (EdM) in Risk and Prevention, and Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Counseling. I provide evidence-based treatments to adults, teens, and children (ages 6+) from various backgrounds, and provide therapy in English and Spanish. I work collaboratively with each client to set and achieve your goals. I'm a parent and appreciate the intense love and efforts along that journey. I love dogs, travel, sports, martial arts, and trying new foods.
Hello all, and welcome to Beach Brain PLLC. I am a board-certified Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 15 years of psychiatric experience. As a psychiatric nurse, I have always wanted to provide more accessibility and care for my patients. My treatment approach is relaxed, and patient focused. My areas of treatment include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance abuse, ADHD, mood disorders and sleep disorders.
I am the founder and owner or RKM Counseling. For the past 18 years I have worked as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, helping clients through both extremely challenging circumstances and daily struggles with life. In 2008, I obtained my Masters degree in Counseling from the #2 nationally ranked counseling program. I specialize in grief and loss, life transitions, anxiety and depression.
A defining part of my therapy work is that I provide highly-personalized psychotherapy services for each of my clients. With almost 7 years of experience, I have tailored my focus on trauma and complex trauma in adults. Whether we use EMDR or talk-therapy, it is my goal as a therapist to learn about your story, witness you in your present reality, and help you build a more hopeful future.

Headway helps you find expert-guided support for every stage of motherhood — from finding the right therapist or psychiatrist, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Searching for postpartum therapists in Asheville starts with finding someone whose training matches what you want support with. Postpartum concerns can include postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, birth-related stress, identity shifts, and relationship strain. As you compare therapists, look for experience with perinatal mental health, pregnancy therapy, and therapy for moms. A therapist with a PMH-C credential has completed specialized training in perinatal mental health, which can be a helpful signal when you review profiles.
Asheville is a smaller city, so the number of local postpartum therapists with current availability may vary. Virtual care can expand your options, especially if your schedule is unpredictable, you are arranging infant care, or you are recovering physically after pregnancy or birth. Beyond specialty, consider appointment times, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading therapist bios can help you understand their approach, communication style, and experience supporting new parents before you book.
Therapy in Asheville can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and see your estimated cost before booking. Headway makes it easier to find postpartum therapists, compare profiles, and book directly when you’re ready. You can enter your insurance details on Headway to confirm coverage for your specific location and plan, and see whether a therapist offers virtual or in-person appointments and is accepting new patients.
