I work with adults who want to change their patterns and habits around alcohol and other substances so that it does not become disruptive to their lives. My approach is practical and evidence-based. Understanding that changing habits can be deeply challenging, I provide a safe, straightforward place where you can make sustainable changes without judgment.
I’ve lived in Oregon over 20 years and have been blessed to raise my family surrounded by natural beauty. I attended graduate school at Portland State University School of Social Work where I graduated with a Master of Social Work degree. I’ve previously specialized in providing services to individuals and families who have survived family violence, abuse and sexual violence. My main practice involves serving individuals in my rural Oregon community who may be experiencing crisis. While this work is exciting and always different, I also enjoy providing clinical therapy with a variety of clients. I believe therapy should be a collaborative partnership focused on the unique goals of each client. My hope is to provide clients with the tools they need to improve daily functioning, and return to a better quality of life.
I am Dr. Maribel Aheran, a neurodivergent, licensed mental health therapist and Certified Autism Specialist dedicated to helping individuals finally get answers. Drawing from my background as a K-12 special education staffing coordinator and counselor, I specialize in adult Autism and ADHD evaluations. Every day, I assess, identify, plan, educate, and build strong therapeutic alliances. Moving past "the tip of the iceberg," I use advanced pattern recognition and differential diagnosis to find underlying issues, equipping clients with targeted psychoeducation and the exact tools they need.
My journey stems from my own story of resilience in the face of hardships. I became a therapist because I have always wanted to help people through some of their darkest hours. Being exposed to some dark hours myself, I know that it is difficult to do it alone. When you have someone to confide in, assist you through the hard times, and just let you know that you are not alone, makes a difference.
My therapeutic approach includes CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, Relational Therapy, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, SFT, EFT, IFS, and just speaking like a human being. I offer a compassionate, trauma-informed space where you can feel safe, seen, and supported. My approach is relational and personalized—we'll explore your story together, build coping tools, and move toward healing with curiosity, courage, and care.
Therapy with me is real, down-to-earth, and never boring. I mix honesty, humor, and heart to make the process comfortable. I help adults manage emotions, build confidence, and tackle life's challenges with tools that work. Think of it as a safe space to be yourself, grow, and maybe laugh along the way. Welcome! I am Jeremy Wade, a dual board-certified Family and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over two decades of healthcare experience. After spending 25 years as an ER provider and clinical leader, I saw too many patients hospitalized simply because they couldn't access proactive outpatient psychiatric care. Driven by a passion to help this underserved population, I stepped away from the ER to dedicate myself fully to mental wellness. Today, I combine my deep medical background with my growing mental health expertise to treat the "whole you" in a safe, welcoming, and collaborative environment.
Great to meet you!As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I believe that a healthy relationship with yourself is the foundation for a good life. I'd be glad to help you find steadier ground, whatever that looks like for you.
My name is Hilary Matthews. I have an MA in Psychology and certifications in Substance Use and Trauma. I enjoy working with adults 18 +in my client centered practice.

Headway makes it easier to find support for overcoming addiction — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding addiction therapists in Portland starts with knowing what kind of support fits your needs. Addiction care can include support for alcohol use, drug use, substance use concerns, compulsive behaviors, and recovery maintenance. As you compare therapists, look for training that matches what you want to work on, such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy for substance use, harm reduction, relapse prevention, or coordination with medication-assisted care. Some people also work with a prescriber as part of their care team.
Portland has many addiction counselors across neighborhoods like Northwest Portland, Southeast Portland, and the Pearl District, which can make it useful to narrow your search by format, schedule, and approach. In-person sessions may fit well if you prefer a local office near work, home, or transit. Virtual sessions can expand access when schedule, commute, or provider availability matters. Read therapist bios before booking to see how they describe their work with addiction, whether they mention harm reduction or recovery experience, and whether their communication style feels like a fit.
Therapy in Portland can be a significant cost without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before care begins. Headway makes that process simpler by showing therapists who are accepting new patients, offering upfront cost estimates after insurance verification, and letting you book directly when you’re ready. This makes it easier to compare addiction therapists in Portland by specialty, availability, location, and insurance fit.
