Hello! I am Jenny, a licensed professional counselor who has been practicing since 2015 as a therapist with adults. I also have spent 20 years working with kids in schools. Now, I work full time in private practice and love being able to connect with clients in this way. I graduated in 2005 with a MA in School Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have worked in the healthcare field for over 30 years in a variety of settings including hospitals, home health, and mental health facilities. A highlight of my career was being able to provide healthcare and mental health services while volunteering in China, India, and serving in Peace Corps Mongolia.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time outside surrounded by trees and near a river or creek. I enjoy learning and make time to enhance my own personal growth. I also like to play games, ski, and listen to podcasts.
I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner who works from the belief that people are not broken—and that many of the struggles we call “mental illness” make sense when we look at trauma, context, and lived experience. I’m especially attuned to the ways mental health systems, stigma, and labels can unintentionally cause harm, and I aim to practice in a way that feels respectful, collaborative, and deeply human.
My approach is unconventional and trauma-informed, influenced by perspectives like those of Gabor Maté, which emphasize compassion, curiosity, and understanding symptoms as meaningful responses rather than defects. I do not believe in rushing to pathologize the human experience. As Joni Mitchell once reflected about depression, sometimes what we’re feeling is not an illness to be fixed, but a signal—an honest response to pain, loss, or a world that has not been kind.
I offer virtual or in-person therapy sessions in Castle Rock, Colorado. I know what it's like to struggle with depression, addiction, and narcissistic abuse. I became a therapist and an energy healer after going through my own "dark night of the soul." Many clients tell me that they relate to me because I have been though similar experiences and know what it's like to push through depression, and overcome addiction and trauma. My goal isn't to help you merely mask symptoms, but to help you navigate through them while healing the underlying roots, staying grounded, and discovering your most authentic self and a life of fulfillment and thriving.
I am accepting new clients.
We all need someone to listen to, understand, and support us, especially during times of uncertainty and transition. My goal is to create a safe, therapeutic space in which you feel comfortable to be yourself and share your fears, hopes, and struggles. As each client is a unique individual, I feel the process of counseling should be tailored to meet your specific needs. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and have the innate ability to heal.
Let's be real - life be "life-ing" pretty much constantly (especially lately), and you don't have to do it alone! My holistic approach and grounded yet playful energy foster sustainable healing by creating an identity rooted in self-compassion, agency, and authenticity. Whether you’re working through trauma, depression, anxiety, interpersonal struggles, and/or grief/loss, I bring presence, wisdom, personal and professional experience, tools, and, perhaps most importantly, humor to the journey. I hope to support you in seeing yourself more clearly, living in alignment, and accessing your innate inner wisdom.
After receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Colorado State University, I worked in the corporate world as a business consultant. While working as a consultant, I frequently observed how people’s hectic work schedules and day-to-day stressors could slowly wear them down emotionally, resulting in their happiness being compromised.
Seeing this trend in the business world, coupled with the passion I’ve always had for understanding people’s thinking and way of doing things, prompted me to pursue my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from University of Colorado Denver. Now with my professional experience and educational background, I can more easily navigate how to handle the day-to-day stressors and help my clients manage the mental health piece of their lives.
Are you hoping to learn practical tools for relieving stress and reconnecting with yourself and your body as well as a judgment-free space to release what has been hidden under the surface? Let's talk more. I’m an LCSW specializing in somatic (body-based) therapy and EMDR, with expressive arts woven in when it’s a good fit for a client. My work centers on helping you reconnect with yourself and your own sense of agency, at a pace that feels right for you. I offer a free consultation call so we can talk through your goals and make sure we’re a good match. There’s no pressure — just a conversation to see if this feels right.
