Forest Floor Therapy is a neurodivergent and identity affirming therapy practice for adults navigating ADHD, autism, anxiety, burnout, and life transitions. At a time when the weight of the world is so heavy, the Forest Floor offers us a space of stillness to slow down, take deep breaths, be seen, feel heard, and reconnect. I am also trained in WPATH Standards of Care and comfortable writing letters of support for those seeking identity affirming medical care.
I’m active and engaged in sessions. You can expect warmth, curiosity, and honesty, not a blank stare or a clipboard. Sometimes therapy here looks like slowing down and grounding. Sometimes it looks like learning new skills. Sometimes it looks like gently challenging old beliefs that no longer serve you. There’s room for humor, swearing, pauses, and figuring things out in real time.
I bring a lot of life experience to my practice. I have worked in various fields throughout my life prior to making the career switch to therapy. I can relate to a lot of different perspectives and backgrounds and bring this to session with me. I show up authentically, being direct but also using humor to connect with clients when needed.
I have worked collectively for 31 years in public safety, crisis work, training and mental/chemical health. During my 16 years in law enforcement (LE) my experiences included being a Sergeant, SWAT Team Leader, Negotiator, Critical Incident Facilitator and Trainer. My experience in LE has led me to my passion in how trauma impacts our first responders. I have used my own experience as a first responder and woman in recovery, to transcend into my current role of a mental health and chemical health therapist working with not only first responders - police, fire, military, dispatchers, front line workers and corrections officers, but also any survivor, individual struggling with LGBT issues, addiction, relational struggles or trauma. I am able to be a conduit of change, sharing the journey with those who face the everyday stressful events, trauma or finding one's true identity. We are never alone. I am here to be a safe place and safe person to share and divide your pain. I am here to honor your experiences, share your success and build your resilience and healing.
Hello, my name is Betsy Walter MSW, LICSW.
I use a relational approach to working with adolescence. I am easy to talk to and like to listen.
Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, stress management concerns, relationship issues, or the emotional weight of trauma and major life changes. You may be noticing overthinking, low motivation, self-doubt, communication problems, conflict in important relationships, or patterns that keep repeating no matter how hard you try to change them. I work with individuals, couples, and families who want more clarity, healthier relationships, and practical tools for moving forward.
My approach is relational, compassionate, and tailored to the person in front of me. I draw from evidence-based and attachment-focused therapies to help clients better understand themselves, strengthen emotional awareness, and create more meaningful change. Whether you are working through anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, family conflict, or the effects of past experiences on your present life, therapy can be a place to slow down, make sense of what is happening, and begin building something healthier.
As a licensed therapist with over 10 years of experience, I’m here to help you feel more like yourself again. If you’ve been dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, or just feeling overwhelmed, we’ll work together to slow things down, make sense of what you’re going through, and find a path forward that actually feels manageable. I work with children, teens, and adults, and my goal is always to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported from the very start.
I enjoy working with adults (ages eighteen and up). My specialty areas are depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and adjustment concerns.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right therapist in Minnesota starts with getting clear on what you're looking for. Consider the concerns you want to address — whether that's anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, ADHD, or something else — and look for a licensed provider who has experience in that area. Minnesota-licensed therapists may hold credentials such as LMFT, LICSW, LPCC, LP, or PsyD, and each brings a different clinical background. Reading a provider's bio can help you understand their approach and decide if they feel like a good match.
Practical factors matter, too. Think about whether you prefer in-person sessions at a location near you — such as in Minneapolis, St. Paul, or another part of the state — or whether virtual appointments fit your schedule better. Many providers offer both. Availability, session times, and the specific therapy style a provider uses (such as CBT, DBT, or EMDR) can all help narrow your search.
Therapy in Minnesota can be a significant expense out of pocket, but using in-network insurance coverage is one of the most reliable ways to reduce your costs. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see an estimated session cost before you book. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, and many patients pay as low as $0 per session depending on their specific coverage.
