Making the decision to seek help can be one of the hardest parts, so congratulations on taking this first step! My practice is person-centered and grounded in values of empathy, compassion, and resilience. I strive for my clients to feel heard and validated. I feel strongly that prioritizing mental health is a cornerstone of self care; you cannot take care of anyone else if you don't take care of yourself first.
I am a marriage and family therapist licensed in Minnesota with a PhD in Psychology, 7 years of experience working as a therapist, and 22 years of experience working as a coach. I have accumulated a wide range of experience working with a diverse clientele. Some of the many issues I have worked with people on are depression, anxiety, self-harm, addiction, trauma, parenting problems, relationship issues, ADHD, sexual abuse, pornography addiction, and anger management.
With 165+ reviews and a 4.96 rating on Zocdoc, I have specialized in advanced medication management for complex, treatment-resistant conditions. I utilize a neurobiological approach that focuses on frontal lobe/executive functioning, nervous system dysregulation, and neurotransmitter systems to diagnose and treat various concerns - ADHD/executive dysfunction, OCD, trauma/C-PTSD, high-masking autism, personality profiles, and cases where standard medication treatments have failed. While I specialize in clinical complexity, I bring that same deep, careful attention to treating anxiety, depression, and clients starting medication for the first time.
You may be functioning well on the outside while quietly feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or unable to slow down.
You may be the person others depend on while quietly feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from yourself. At Milton’s Place Counseling, therapy offers a supportive space to slow down, process what you are carrying, and identify practical next steps. I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and major life transitions. You do not have to wait until you are in crisis to seek support.
If anxiety, depression, grief, or ongoing stress are making daily life feel harder, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I work with adolescents, adults, and families who feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Many parents seek support when they notice changes in their teen’s mood, behavior, school functioning, or communication, while adults often come to therapy feeling exhausted, disconnected, or weighed down by life transitions and relationship stress.
As a licensed therapist with over 10 years of experience, I’m here to help you feel more like yourself again. If you’ve been dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, or just feeling overwhelmed, we’ll work together to slow things down, make sense of what you’re going through, and find a path forward that actually feels manageable. I work with children, teens, and adults, and my goal is always to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported from the very start.
Hello, I'm Dan. Welcome! I'm glad that you're here and that you've chosen to begin or continue your journey in therapy. I’m a licensed therapist based in Rochester, Minnesota, my home since 2010. I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology from Florida State University before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where I served honorably for 25 years. While on active duty, I completed the coursework for my Master’s degree in counseling from Winona State University and went on to finalize my internship and graduate in 2015, shortly after retiring from service in 2014.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as both an educator and hospital social worker, giving me firsthand insight into the pressures and challenges that often accompany helping professions. In addition to my clinical experience, I've spent many years serving in Christian ministry, an experience that continues to shape the compassion, perspective, and care that I bring to my work. As a therapist, I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, and life transitions.

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding the right therapist in Saint Paul starts with clarifying what you're looking for. Consider whether you need support for a specific concern — such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or life transitions — and whether you'd prefer talk therapy, medication management, or both. A licensed provider like an LCSW, LPCC, psychologist, or psychiatrist can offer different types of care, so understanding the distinction can help narrow your search.
From there, think about the practical details that will keep you consistent with appointments. Do you want to meet in person at an office near your neighborhood, or would virtual sessions fit your schedule better? Does a provider's approach or background matter to you? Reading a provider's bio before booking can give you a sense of their style and specialties, so you can feel more confident about the fit.
Therapy in Saint Paul can be expensive without coverage, but using your in-network insurance benefits is one of the most reliable ways to reduce what you pay. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs before you book, and many patients pay as low as $0 per visit. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, making it easier to find a therapist who fits both your clinical needs and your budget.
