Hello! I am a licensed clinical social worker with experience working in schools with children and adolescents, hospital settings with adults, and private practice with clients from diverse backgrounds. I have supported students in building emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills, adults coping with acute mental health challenges, and private clients navigating a wide range of life experiences. My work is informed by a trauma-informed perspective, and I am committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space for every client.
Clients often describe me as empathetic, grounded, and collaborative. I value building a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, respect, and understanding, and I tailor my approach to meet each person’s unique needs and goals.
A former client called me "endlessly chill." I am known to wear more sweatshirts than more "professional" attire. I don't want to give off any energy that I am better than anyone who sits across from me. I am known to swear in sessions (but I do filter this per client).
Choosing a therapist is a personal decision, and I believe you deserve someone who will meet you with compassion, curiosity, and respect. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe to be yourself—without judgment—and where we can work together to better understand the challenges you're facing and the strengths you already possess.
I hold a master's degree in Addictions and Rehabilitation Counseling and am a license professional clinical counselor in the Minnesota. Before becoming a therapist, I earned my medical degree in Mexico, an experience that deepened my appreciation for the connection between emotional and physical well-being.
You’ve spent so much of your life holding space for others—showing up, pushing through, doing what’s expected. But where do you go when you need space to exhale? My practice is a sanctuary for high-achieving, heart-centered individuals who are tired of performing strength and ready to cultivate something deeper: true balance, ease, and self-trust.
As a therapist, I hold space for the complexities of your experience, offering both warmth and directness to guide you toward sustainable healing. I believe that transformation happens when we integrate mind, body, and spirit—where deep insight meets intentional action. Together, we’ll explore the patterns keeping you stuck and build a foundation for a life that feels just as good as it looks on paper.
I am a warm, compassionate, nonjudgmental clinician who cares about those who show up for therapy. I am inquisitive, curious and direct in challenging thoughts and behavior that get in the way of living a happy, fulfilling life. I encourage individuals, couples and families to lean into/draw strength from their spiritual and/or religious beliefs. I enjoy and encourage utilizing the gift of humor to enrich one’s life.
I enjoy working with college students. I am also an AAMFT Approved Supervisor for college students seeking supervision. (I would not be able to provide therapy and AAMFT Supervision to a client - as that would be a "dual" relationship).
Hello, I’m Dr. Stella Essien, Welcome!
As a dual board-certified Nurse Practitioner (FNP & PMHNP), I have a passion for compassionate, equitable, and accessible mental health care practice that brings evidence-based, person-centered services to individuals and families across Minnesota.
Whether you're navigating anxiety, or addiction recovery, depression, or stress, I am here to support your path forward with warmth, professionalism, and purpose.
Hello, I'm Dan. Welcome! I'm glad that you're here and that you've chosen to begin or continue your journey in therapy. I’m a licensed therapist based in Rochester, Minnesota, my home since 2010. I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology from Florida State University before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where I served honorably for 25 years. While on active duty, I completed the coursework for my Master’s degree in counseling from Winona State University and went on to finalize my internship and graduate in 2015, shortly after retiring from service in 2014.
I am a passionate lifelong learner who brings a warm, adaptable personality to every session. Our work is deeply rooted in your personal growth, with a shared goal of long-term health and healing.

Headway makes it easier to find family-focused support — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Finding family therapists in Saint Paul starts with identifying what your family wants support with. Family therapy can help with parenting conflict, adolescent struggles, blended family dynamics, communication across generations, and relationship strain within the household. Family therapists are trained to work with the relational system, not just one person. As you compare Saint Paul therapists, look for training or specialties that match your needs, such as marriage and family therapy, child and adolescent experience, reunification therapy, or family systems work.
In a mid-sized city like Saint Paul, you may find a useful mix of local offices and virtual appointments. In-person therapy may work well when several family members can meet at the same location, while virtual sessions can help when schedules, transportation, or location make shared attendance harder. Family therapy sessions may include the full family, specific family members, or one person at a time. Before booking, review each therapist’s bio for their approach, appointment availability, and whether they offer a free phone consultation to discuss session structure upfront.
Family counseling in Saint Paul can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before care begins. Headway helps you find licensed therapists who are accepting new patients, match your preferences, and may accept a wide range of insurance plans. You can compare profiles, see estimated out-of-pocket costs after entering your insurance details, and book directly when you’re ready.
If anyone in your family is experiencing or worried about abuse, threats, or coercion, joint family or couples therapy usually isn't the right starting point — individual support is safer. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-422-4453) and National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788\) can help you think through next steps.
